| Are any teachers hired yet? |
| Are there current Langley kids looking at it? |
| Why are there no scholarships or financial aid? The Brooklyn school gives scholarships. What gives? |
I posted originally, so at least 3 of us are curious. I would never, ever pay tuition for an education others were getting for free. It just doesn't sit right. How do you try to sell that to parents? I think this is probably your number 1 biggest obstacle. |

Here's how they market their "free" public schools: http://enrollbasis.com.
Curious to hear the difference, if any, from the AMA Basis staff member. |
Common, people, stop bashing your competitor school
Competition is always good and if you don't buy it, then why continue to put bad words about it? Everyone will benefit from an emergence of a strong, no-frills school that offers more choice for all. |
| Are you Chris Zaffries? |
I agree! We need another private school option in Virginia. I wish them the best. |

Can we please save the "why would you pay for something you could get for free over the bridge" comments? They've been said many many times before.
There is a market for this school in NVA but I'd like to know what is going on. Did the admissions team really quit or what? |
I know of a few but not sure how many are seriously considering leaving |
The ideal is to have admissions be selective, but in reality profit is driving admissions right now. The hope is to get increasingly selective as admissions increase. There is a lot of pressure to meet target numbers, so for the first year the BASIS Independent schools will pretty much take anyone. Some of those students will drop out midyear, but since there is a no refund policy, the midyear attrition doesn't hurt profit. Some students stick it out and leave at the end of the year. At BISV this year, student attrition wasn't all that bad. Most of the kids stayed for a second year. |
Some students get denied, especially if there are serious concerns about academic ability. There is still a lot of pressure for the school to perform, so we do want students who can be successful. Often, however, lower performing students are accepted into a lower grade, or immediately put on student support. If they don't turn around after the first year they are pressured to leave. |
Worst case scenario, they won't open if numbers are too low. I think 150 is the minimum target they've set. At first the word was the admission team was fired. They did, however, leave voluntarily. It's highly possible that they were pressured to resign or left assuming they would have been fired anyway. |
They only give one at BK. As a concession to the red hook neighborhood which was up in arms about the private school opening in a low income area. There are no scholarships or aid because profit is the goal. |
