+1 Well said. Some people are on this earth to make it better (bowie); others are on this earth to make it worse (PP). |
+1 Well said. So many creative people appreciate what he contributed throughout his lifetime. |
I didn't go to either of those performances but I saw him at Live Aid in Wembley in 1985. That stretch of the afternoon was the hardest to get through trying to do a bathroom break - there were so many legends on stage. |
I did NOT know that. Fascinating! Any other factoids? |
| Does anyone remember a movie from the 80's ( I think it was on HBO) - it took place in Montreal and was about a boy who took up running and decided to run the (I think) Montreal marathon.....it was kind cheesey/coming of age teen movie - but the final scene when he is finishing the race has David Bowie's "Heroes"it made such an impact on me........ |
A genius. And a class act to the end. Of course he orchestrated his own death. Only David Bowie. Oh, David. You fucking miracle. Thank you. |
It's about two lovers in the shadow of the Berlin wall. (Factoid as another pp requested). |
"Put on your red shoes and dance the blues." RIP. |
| I've adored David Bowie for 40 years. He was brilliant in so many ways, and his music is gorgeous. He inspired me, made me feel anything is possible. His last album is beautiful and sad, and now even more so. I'm not ashamed to say I've cried today. He's truly loved by many. |
+1 Wondering about favorite songs (or is that a separate thread, don't want to be redundant by creating another)? Wild is the Wind has been in my head all day. |
I cried today, such an impact on my life and reminds me when music could be so impactful and meaningful. You said this so well. Given a sentence of death, he finished his life on his terms. |
15:32 again. I've cried today, too. David Bowie has been my idol since I was old enough to "get" music - longer than I care to recall. This is a true loss for the world. If you like any kind of music that was produced in the last 50 years, you have Bowie to thank for it. A true innovator, creative and visionary. For all of us who didn't fit in, he told us we weren't alone. And now it feels like we are, a little bit. |

Watching the golden globes last night .. All the shallow celebs yucking it up ..congratulating each other looking like they all had gas at their tables.
If David Bowie came out to speak and present an award, they would sit up and listen with rapt attention. The world is less cool without David Bowie. |
|
Factoid (from the wapo obit): Bowie's half brother was schizophrenic and lived in a mental institution. He always feared that he'd go mad, too.
Today I listened to Lodger and Blackstar. So good. Yassassin is perpetually stuck in my head. Tomorrow I think I'll listen to Aladdin Sane and Young Americans. Did you know that Fame was co-written with John Lennon? Wednesday: Diamond Dogs. Then who knows. Sigh, the world is bummed today. |
| Before his time every minute he lived. |
