That's not what that means. You'd be pissed if it were on Christmas.

Right. Because that's the same.

It is, though. To put it plainly, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are to Jews what Easter and Christmas are to Christians. They're the two holiest days of the year.

Easter and Holy Week, yes, Christmas not so much. Christmas is more like Hannukah.

Well if Christmas is s minor holiday than sure it's just like Hanukkah.

Christmas and Hannukah were historically minor holidays that were elevated due to competition of other holidays around the Solstice. Both are more culture than Holy.

If it's the end of Yom Kippor isn't it over at sundown anyway?

Just checked. Yom Kippur is over at 7:40pm. BTSN is 7-10pm. Arrive 40 minutes late.

It is over, but I have not eaten for 26 hours...there is an end of fast meal, which is a big deal. It is not that simple. At best, it was a significant oversight by the administration. At worst, it is blatant antisemitism.

Go or don't go. You have options.

Ash Wednesday, Maudy Thursday, Good Friday are all school days and very religious holidays.
I suppose FCPS is anti-catholic! Maybe I should make a stink!!

OP, it would only be antisemitic if the intention was to offend those celebrating YK and Eid. A popular misuse of the word, otherwise.

Semite. a member of any of various ancient and modern peoples originating in southwestern Asia, including the Akkadians, Canaanites, Phoenicians, Hebrews, and Arabs. a member of any of the peoples descended from Shem, the eldest son of Noah.

You can come late to BTSN, they have it setup for usually 2 time periods.

Come on, it's an oversight. Non-Jews don't know how these days work. If they really intended to be offensive they'd have scheduled it for Kol Nidre.

Look, it sucks, but such is life as a minority in this country. Just do as a PP upthread suggested and ask the teacher to give you copies of anything that is handed out and to speak with you individually another time.

Signed,

Jew who had to ask for tests, meetings, etc to be reschedule due to religious holidays every year until college

No they are not. For the past decades they have been during spring break in FCPS.

Ni, you are wrong! Break begins Monday after good Friday. They are very holy days for Catholics!

Have you contacted the school and asked if it could be changed? I'm sure it is an oversight. Maybe it is not too late to be changed?

No, spring break is always between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday -unless you are Eastern Orthodox.

Fine. Christmas falls on a Friday this year. Perhaps kids should still have school on that day?
