Just noticed, Luther Jackson's back to school night is Yom Kippur

They can't accommodate every tom dick and harry's holidays. If you are so concerned get on the PTA and start a and coordinate dates. Let me guess, you are too busy....

This isn't a random holiday for some random religion. It's the holiest day of the year for Jews, and this year also coincides with a major Muslim holiday. Wow. Can anyone with the school comment if the conflict was raised and whether this was rescheduled?

That's not what that means. You'd be pissed if it were on Christmas.

Right. Because that's the same.

It is, though. To put it plainly, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are to Jews what Easter and Christmas are to Christians. They're the two holiest days of the year.

Who cares? We don't recognize religious holidays in public schools.

Easter and Holy Week, yes, Christmas not so much. Christmas is more like Hannukah.

Well if Christmas is s minor holiday than sure it's just like Hanukkah.

If it was just a random meeting maybe but a BTSN not likely. Look Virginia is a very conservative, waspy state and despite the more liberal and diverse NOVA area.

Then why is winter break over Christmas? Why not start it December 31 so we get New Year's, and run until January 14 or so? No one needs off for Christmas, obviously.

Of course. The entire academic calendar already reflects the Christian holidays. Funny thing about how winter break seems to coincide with Christmas and Spring Break coincides with Easter.

I hate it when Christmas and Easter are school days.

Does the easter bunny and Santa show up?

Hint, the above are American traditions , Jesus didn't have anything to do with chocolate bunnies or Rudolf the red nose rein deer....

yeah, you can't complain about the Christians getting time off for "their holidays" and also argue that Christmas is no longer a religious holiday but a cultural one. Not necessarily anyone on this thread, but I've heard both arguments form the same crowd.

FCPS used to consistently have school on Easter Monday. It's just this past year that it was a day off. Spring break was usually the week before.

Easter Monday is not a real holiday. It's just a day off so people can have time to travel home and still have Easter Sunday with their families. Wish I could get that for my holidays.
