President Jimmy Carter has terminal cancer

Ah, life of the privileged. I do doubt your average folk would get the same benefit under Obamacare.....

Didn't Dick Cheney, despite being outside normal guidelines, get a new cyborg heart under Obamacare?

The fact that President Carter left peanut farming, first for the nuclear Navy and then, some years later, for politics is probably why he has lived this long. The rest of his family who were more involved in farming for more years all succumbed to cancer. Carter hs speculated that it was because of the powerful and dangerous pesticides that were commonly used in certain farming until the 60s.

He risked the lives of the hostages in Iran - and got 8 Americans killed, and made America look stupid - for no other reason than he was flagging in the polls. The hostages weren't in any danger - in fact, the rescue attempt put them in danger and many of them were expected to die in the rescue.

That's the "honor" of Saint Jimmah.

Disgusting.

Really? Rescuing hostages?? Can you name a President who DOESN"T try to rescue hostages?

Um, no.

What other President launched a hostage rescue attempt?

Carter is the only President who launched a totally unnecessary, politically motivated, militarily disastrous hostage rescue.

And that leaves aside the fact that the hostage crisis was the product of his dickless foreign policy in the first place, and that "President Honorable" threw our long-term ally the Shah under the bus.

Disgusting.

The Shah had more to do with his own demise.

Eh, I can kind of see his point. When you're 90, your cells divide so slowly that cancer doesn't progress as quickly as it does in younger people, which is also why childhood cancer is so deadly. If you and your toddler both get a scraped knee at the same time, your child's knee will be healed in a few days while you still have a scab a week later. Since he's otherwise in good health, I can see where chemo would buy him a worthwhile amount of time. About 10 years ago, one of the agents in his SS detail told me that Carter handled the rigors of his many international trips more easily than the agents half his age.

I think, too, at that age, that mind and spirit play a significant role in health and longevity. I knew a wonderful elderly couple elderly couple who met and married late in life, after they'd both lost their first spouses. They were so in love and romantic-- in their 80's!-- and laughed ALL the time. Between the two of them, they'd had breast cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer resulting in a colostomy, heart disease, and a cervical spine fracture requiring halo traction.

Carter has a loving marriage and lives life with purpose. I wouldn't discount the importance of that.

Holy crap. Your entire concept of how fast cancer grows is very seriously off. In fact children respond to chemo better because their cells divide faster.

Have no issues with him getting the chemo. I have issues with the 'little people' on Obamacare being denied the same treatment.

No little people are covered by Obamacare, it doesn't exist as insurance coverage. Those little people are covered by either Medicaid or regular insurance policies.

They would not treat an average individual's stage 4 cancer at that age

You're absolutely right...someone who is 70 or 80 pr 90 will definitely not get chemo with insurance companies participating under ACA/Obamacare. Of course, the reason that is the case is that NO ONE of that age qualifies to be covered under ACA/Obamacare...they are on Medicare.

Wow, just when I thought Republican partisans couldn't sink any lower .... "Best news I've heard all day"??? You're celebrating someone's terminal cancer because you disagree with his politics.

Aw come on...you know you almost peed your pants when you found something you could try and pin on a Republican...of course he might not be...might be a Democrat or independent...or even someone that has never voted. Your's is just some more projection of partisan bs.

"They" will treat anyone who wants treatment. My FIL just passed from cancer at 87. He refused treatment, despite his oncologist's urging. Had he done it, Medicare and his gap policy would have covered the full cost ($8,000 per month).

This article suggest otherwise. "Anyone" is a very big word.

I've already told you...and I am an expert on the subject...that you are WRONG...if you don't read my other post please do.

Weak attempt at backpedaling. You really suck. What kind of person says that shit about another human being? Your parents would be disappointed.

Again with the assumptions...I didn't write the first post...was just calling you out for assuming the person who did was a Republican. Now how about you backpedal some cause you sure as hell need to.

Oh...and the first poster is an asshole. But just because he made such a crass and low comment about a Democrat doesn't make him a Republican. Well, it does in your mind. A partisan ship...never one I will ever get on.

It was the Reagan deficits that ruined our economy. Look at the statistics.

So all of you who tout what a success the economy was under Clinton are blowing smoke because the economy was ruined 30+ years ago?

First of all, he did not destroy the economy. What destroyed the economy was the increase in fuel prices from 1973 - 1999. Gas went from 30 cents per gallon to 70 cents per gallon between 73 and 77. That caused a deep recision and inflationary spiral. The economy was also suffering from defense cuts at the end of the Vietnam war: people coming home from the war coupled with reduced military procurement. That plus oil killed the economy.

The only real issue I have with carter was he micromanaged the country. And he was not forceful enough with Iran at the hostage crisis. (which pushed gas from 70 cents to over a dollar).

The economy rebounded under Reagan only because of loosening of credit and deficit spending. Oh, and those policies led to the 2008 crash.

So gas prices magically happened? Interesting.
