mundo verde REALLY moving

So is this the Mundo Verde "bubble class"? Or it will they sustain this many classes into the future?

I think a list like Mundo Verde moving is good for all waitlists at all schools. For some families it is a top choice (at least as indicated by their waitlist length). Their list moving means all lists will move. While immersion isn't a priority to our family, it has been great to see some of our others numbers move, as we would like to get into one of the Montessori programs and our numbers were in their 70s at best.

Yeah but having a long wait list doesn't mean that it's a top choice. Quite frankly nobody can make that statement.

Not necessarily. If they get matched at another school that they ranked higher, then they are taken all the lower wait lists. So it's likely that most of the people who are taken off the wait list are not "declining the school"-- in fact they may have never gotten a call from the school at all.

I thought when you're accepted into higher ranked school you're taken off lower WLs.

I thought when you're accepted into higher ranked school you're taken off lower WLs.

When you enroll you are removed from lower ranked waitlisted schools.

I know at least three families for whom it is a top choice. That is some. Statement made accurately.

I asked about this on the tour - it's not a bubble class. it's just that they used to take new group of kids at pk4 and then another new group of kids at Kindergarten. Now they will just take add a cohort that is twice as big at peek 4 and not had a new cohort of kinds in kindergarten going forward.

MV had a very long WL. Probably for some people it was at the top of their ranking and others it wasn't. That is likely true of all schools. My guess is a that a lot of people had it at the middle or top of their rankings. For all the complaints about the"sketchy" location, MV is between the Hill and the green line corridor (shaw/u street/ Col Heights) and also farther south than a lot of other charters so on the way to work for a lot of people who work downtown. This makes it a viable (if not perfect) option for more people than, for example) CMI or two rivers (those schools work really well for some neighborhoods and are very tough commutes for others). Additionally, it's a larger school, so more people are likely to have a friend with kids there and thus be more familiar with the school.

that said, I don't understand the obsession with how quickly the WL is moving unless you are trying to get a seat and still stuck on the WL. It is not reflective of how well your child will do at the school or whether it is a good fit for your family.

And those same parents freaking out that people are turning down their school ... for perfectly legitimate family reasons.

It all really goes to show that they lottery is a thinly-veiled popularity contest that is supposed to make people feel good about school choice.

We are down to #24 from something in the 80's. Those of you who are following this carefully, are things still moving that much? Should I begin to consider the possibility of getting in (Pk4)? Thanks.

I have friends with twins enrolled in Pk4 who are moving out of state. They haven't notified the school just in case something went awry with the sale of their house here/purchase of their new home out of state. I'm heartbroken as I fully hoped our kids would grow up in school together!!! So, look for at least two more slots opening up ...
