Minnesota is cold but you can get a 4 car garage new build w/ good schools for 580k!

You can move thirty miles outside of DC and get a comparable new build home for $550k. Or hop on over to West Virginia and have an hour commute. Still better than living in Minnesota.

basements?

they don't typically build basements in TX...or CA...Or many other areas.

The cost of living is cheaper in TX. I personally didn't like the new builds in Austin and found myself liking the neighborhoods that you frequently see the property brothers renovating in. Actually, we looked in the neighborhood where the HGTV Smart Home 2015 is this year.

Sadly, we didn't wind up relocating and actually bought a home without a basement in NoVA. We could use a little more space (one or two more rooms would be ideal), but we honestly don't miss a basement. At all. We have plenty of other storage elsewhere (garage and attic) Lots of homes in TX have storage space somewhere, as well as flexible spaces that can be game rooms or play space or the like.

I think that price is too high for MN.

And then you live in MN - I understand it is lovely in the spring and summer there, but....

Mpls and St Paul are beautiful cities, and there are some super nice houses especially near the lakes, or in Edina, or on Summit Ave, but those houses aren't $580k.

Thanks for the perspective. People around here think that mansions are free everywhere else in the U.S.

Check out the beautiful renovations of Minneapolis and St. Paul older homes by Nicole Curtis on Rehab Addict. Some are not pricey but I'm sure the Summit Ave. one she did last year was well over $1 million.

Awesome quality of life, and the summer heat isn't nearly as bad as I expected. It's beautiful and green here, great roads, great economy & jobs.

If you have NOT looked back, why are you on a forum for the DC Area?

Those big houses look nice, but you have to pay to heat them and in MN that's a little bit more money than it is here.

You also need to garage your cars in MN.

And you might like a big house when you are INSIDE from October through May.

No one wants to live in Lakeville! That house would be around a million or more in a desirable suburb (where it would have a 3-car garage, there's not enough land for 4-stall garages).

You have obviously not spent much time in Frederick if you think there's "not much" there.

It's all a matter of perspective. We are from the West Coast and I would never, ever live in the DC area without a two car garage, and maybe it's because you are all driving 20 year old beaters and taking the metro and are used to your seasons, but to us your winters are pretty bad and we don't like being exposed to the elements like that. Taking public transportation in a snowstorm or waking up to chip ice off your windshield is not a way I choose to live my life.

You don't pay to heat your house in the late fall and winter months? Where exactly do you live?

Did you bring your reading comprehension from the west coast? I said there's not much in Lakeville, MN, a place I have actually been. And I said you aren't likely to get a 4 car garage here, nothing about 2 car garages. Lots of houses in this area have 2 car garages.

Are people in this area really driving 20 year old beaters? I really don't see that where I am - it's mostly luxury SUVs, but maybe you do.

You can't get then in a school district that's all 10's. That's BS.

Minnesotans need garages because the cars would freeze outside in winter and not start.

You twit.

My point was that people here on the East need garages too--you all just try to justify not having them because you drive cars "into the ground" and it's how you justify spending $800k on a what is essentially a haphazard tool shed.

As for people driving 20 year old cars, just take a look at any car thread here on DCUM. Driving a beater is practically a badge of honor, and only the PGC "poors" are driving luxury vehicles.

Most people don't have their kids in all 10s and that's a really foolish requirement to have. You can have GOOD school districts without every single school being the absolute top rated.

Jesus. A little fucking perspective people. I know it's asking a lot around these parts, but just try it.

But brrrrrr
And are there any black people? Sounds kind of pricey for those trade offs
