Good grief is there no end to this stupidity? Teach children reading writing arithmetic civics and history. Leave the Marxist indoctrination to the loony parents!

Yes, as Karl Marx famously wrote, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’"

What Marx wrote is unimportant, what he wrought is. Marxism has led to the poverty, misery, enslavement, and death of untold millions.

I'm speechless.

Different poster here, are you speechless because
1) you disagree this is Marxist 'indoctrination'
2) you agree
3) you think Marx's words are important and annoyed poster said his words don't matter
4) you think Marxism in practice is odious and annoyed other poster would be quoting Marx with adoration

Thanks, just curious and looking to understand your comment in the larger context.

Pretty sure that the PP was speechless bc she was quoting the BIBLE and not Marx and nobody was able to pick up on her sarcasm.

Probably because no one read the quote...

Gee, no wonder kids can't play dodge ball anymore, run around trees because a *parent* might sue the school, can't read Diary of Anne Frank in school anymore, can't discuss or debate politics anymore, the list goes on.

The funny thing is, for the kids who do this, assuming the OP doesn't ruin it for everybody, this will probably be one of a handful of educational things they will actually remember for their entire lives, and fondly. It will engage their imagination and just maybe their hearts. Not a lot of that going on in MCPS.

OP Make your own kid keep their shoes on but don't spoil it for the others.

I agree. You are all a bunch of coddling hypochondriac pessimists. The WHOLE point is to show how hard it is for others in various countries who do not own shoes. And their conditions are a lot worse than ours. Seriously, a rusty nail in the school halls? Give me a break people. You all want MCPS to do a little more, think outside the box, get your kids talking/acting. This is a great way to show them. But yes, I am sure 99% of them will get gashes, infections, eboli, the flu, chicken pox, whooping cough, etc.... because they don't wear shoes for a day. Seriously, step back and look at the uptight and tense human being you have become. It is really scary.

You a charmer… How about we teach the kids and save the stunts. You want to educate children, have them read Gulag Archipelago, Hearts of Darkness, The Good Earth, Up From Slavery.

Yeah, well, then make participants sign a waiver.

Well, to the crazy's defense, many wars have been fought in the name of the other guy as well. Not usually thinking of the passage you quoted.

If wearing shoes inside a public building is your definition of a coddling hypochondriac parent, then I guess I am one.

The WHOLE point is to show how hard it is for others in various countries who do not own shoes.

Seriously, do you think the kids are really going to learn anything? It's going to be a sock-smell-athon and a huge waste of academic time.

You all want MCPS to do a little more, think outside the box, get your kids talking/acting.

On a larger scale, I don't expect nor do I want my public school system to instill THEIR values in my children, that is MY job. A shoe drive is fine, reading and discussing a specific child in another country would at least develop an emotional attachment.

This is a great way to show them. But yes, I am sure 99% of them will get gashes, infections, eboli, the flu, chicken pox, whooping cough, etc.... because they don't wear shoes for a day

My neighbor, who is a physician, has worked extensively in third world countries thinks it's an idiotic idea and a public health issue. BTW infections that enter via cracked and calloused feet are a third world health problem, so maybe if a kid gets an infection the point will be proven?

Seriously, step back and look at the uptight and tense human being you have become. It is really scary.

If I scare you, then you scare easily. You may want to try developing enough maturity to have a differing opinion without stooping to insults.

It seems strange to me and really unmanageable to have them not wearing shoes to the bathroom, cafeteria, playground etc. However, I have no problem with shoes off in the classroom. My DS's 2nd grade teacher let the kids take off their shoes in class and my son remembers that year and teacher very fondly. She felt it helped the kids relax and feel comfortable in their classroom, just like they would at home. She also let wiggly kids sprawl on the floor to do their work on a clipboard if that's how they were comfortable. Not all parents would have been comfortable with her methods but she was great with DS.

This activity doesn't convey that knowledge. Its a show stunt and nothing more. The school can say look what we did but not wearing shoes inside a climate controlled school where you sit and walk a few feet IS NOT experiencing living in a 3rd world country not wearing shoes.

Exactly. The kids in third world countries aren't walking around on smooth, tiled floors.

I would think this would be a safety issue. Our kids have to wear shoes inside at all times in case of a fire. Bare feet are not allowed.

WTF??? They wear their shows all the time in case of a fire? Do they sleep with them on at night too because that is when most fires occur. Seriously, insane freaky people here.

I send my kid to school with the booty slippers from the hospital so their shoes don't come with all those bad germs on the school tile floor.

We have wipes for our shoes and feet to keep our home clean of outside germs. I crawl on my hands and knees once a day for objects around the house that could penetrate our feet and kill us.

The dog now lives outside because he won't wear shoes, even the comfortable slippers I knitted myself with antibacterial yarn.

We shower with flip flops on and then set our shoes right outside of the bath tub. You never know, there could be some flu germs that get onto my feet and then when I lick them before bedtime, I will get the flu.

I make my kids wear shoes at the pool because there are rusty nails around. It is hard for them to jump off the diving board and one time, my kid sunk to the bottom, but their feet are safe and I feel less stressed than I ever have.

I once cleaned up a school playground in DC (mission project). Broken glass all over the baseball field.

But they are wearing shoes to and from school and the playground and MCPS isnt inner city DC so what is your point?

Asinine post. None of these examples correlate to children wearing shoes in a public building.

Thank you... I was beginning to question the sanity of MCPS parents.
