Good grief is there no end to this stupidity? Teach children reading writing arithmetic civics and history. Leave the Marxist indoctrination to the loony parents!

Yes, as Karl Marx famously wrote, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’"

What Marx wrote is unimportant, what he wrought is. Marxism has led to the poverty, misery, enslavement, and death of untold millions.

I'm speechless.

Different poster here, are you speechless because
1) you disagree this is Marxist 'indoctrination'
2) you agree
3) you think Marx's words are important and annoyed poster said his words don't matter
4) you think Marxism in practice is odious and annoyed other poster would be quoting Marx with adoration

Thanks, just curious and looking to understand your comment in the larger context.

Pretty sure that the PP was speechless bc she was quoting the BIBLE and not Marx and nobody was able to pick up on her sarcasm.

Hey Joe McCarthy, the poster was not quoting Marx. That was Jesus.

What about if there were a fire drill or real fire? I'd imagine that they wouldn't schedule a drill that day, but things happen…and it seems like it would be a mess trying to get hundreds of kids out safely shoe-less

Mine went for five treatments on a Plantar's wart before it finally died.

No way. Not only could he pick something up again, if he has another one just starting he could spread it around.

barefoot day in school? dumbest idea i've heard in awhile.
doubt many will partake if they actually take a second to think about the hygienics. going around barefoot on dirt transfers less bacteria than tile!

there are other ways to instill a sense of charity or understanding of third world country issues.

Umm, ever travel through airport security?

Gee, no wonder kids can't play dodge ball anymore, run around trees because a *parent* might sue the school, can't read Diary of Anne Frank in school anymore, can't discuss or debate politics anymore, the list goes on.

The funny thing is, for the kids who do this, assuming the OP doesn't ruin it for everybody, this will probably be one of a handful of educational things they will actually remember for their entire lives, and fondly. It will engage their imagination and just maybe their hearts. Not a lot of that going on in MCPS.

OP Make your own kid keep their shoes on but don't spoil it for the others.

Step on a rusty nail, tack, paper clip--do you really want your kid to have a tetanus booster shot?

I agree. You are all a bunch of coddling hypochondriac pessimists. The WHOLE point is to show how hard it is for others in various countries who do not own shoes. And their conditions are a lot worse than ours. Seriously, a rusty nail in the school halls? Give me a break people. You all want MCPS to do a little more, think outside the box, get your kids talking/acting. This is a great way to show them. But yes, I am sure 99% of them will get gashes, infections, eboli, the flu, chicken pox, whooping cough, etc.... because they don't wear shoes for a day. Seriously, step back and look at the uptight and tense human being you have become. It is really scary.

This activity doesn't convey that knowledge. Its a show stunt and nothing more. The school can say look what we did but not wearing shoes inside a climate controlled school where you sit and walk a few feet IS NOT experiencing living in a 3rd world country not wearing shoes.

Aww, way to be a wet blanket. It was starting to be fun seeing how many Birchers would bite.

Exactly. The kids in third world countries aren't walking around on smooth, tiled floors.

I would think this would be a safety issue. Our kids have to wear shoes inside at all times in case of a fire. Bare feet are not allowed.

Crazy liability! Can't believe they're allowing it.

Bahahahahaha, it *was* pretty hilarious. Given the reading comprehension level of that PP, though, maybe the fun will continue anyway?
