Seriously, do you think the kids are really going to learn anything?  It's going to be a sock-smell-athon and a huge waste of academic time.

On a larger scale, I don't expect nor do I want my public school system to instill THEIR values in my children, that is MY job.  A shoe drive is fine, reading and discussing a specific child in another country would at least develop an emotional attachment.

My neighbor, who is a physician, has worked extensively in third world countries thinks it's an idiotic idea and a public health issue.  BTW infections that enter via cracked and calloused feet are a third world health problem, so maybe if a kid gets an infection the point will be proven?
