That's Ms. Day's classroom. Have those families signed tiny supervisor photo waivers? |
SO who is the kid-parent that is getting all these high profile ITS political opportunities? (Looking at IFA Facebook).
If only he'd come east of the river. |
Love DCUM for threads like this - you women are way smarted than me (I never woudl have figured this out).
Now if only you'd stop trying to feed my kid pizza for lunch . . . |
But after tomorrow we'll all know why school was cancelled and we'll all be kinda pissed people weren't more upfront about why beforehand. |
I mean, yes, we'll be pissed that school was cancelled for a ceremony, but now we'll also be pissed we weren't told a straight answer about why. |
Not for IT, I didn't! And I can spot my kid! (I think). |
this makes no sense. The First Couple have been to many schools while they were in session: POTUS announced the FY15 budget at Powell and FLOTUS has been to Deal and Savoy. They interacted with the kids. Even GW Bush read a story to a classroom (remember, that's where he was on 9/11)? There's no need to close a school no matter who comes. |
Oh, they're not closing IT. Just the little guy, Lee. IT kids will meet Flotus (again). Those scrappy Lee kids will be out of the picture, at home with their parents who will have 1 day less of vacation this year. :,( |
IT parent here. Some of the pics of the kids at the White House were from YMCA summer camps that happen to have many IT kids attend. Pic with Obama was not expected. Students were visiting the WH for a healthy kids initiative (with no expectation to meet the president). The day was rained out and they were brought indoors and had an improv meeting with the President. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a VIP there tomorrow but honestly I would try not to be too upset about it. I also have to take a few hours off of work since aftercare is limited. I know it's not the same, but we're all in this together. We have been through hell the last four years from being a minority tenant to losing a promised DCPS building. At the end of the day all of our children are going to have a nice new playground to use where a large donation came from the parents/IFA from Inspired. Let's be good neighbors and not tear eachother apart. |
Sorry but IT ISN'T being a "good neighbor" by priortizing a VIP visit over another school's right to hold classes on a regular school day. All jokes aside there will be several kids who won't have a lunch tomorrow, which is often times their only definite meal that day. Is it worth a FLOTUS visit that much knowing that? Your school's leadership thinks so... As a Lee parent I'm grateful for the new playground but there's absolutely no need for the pomp & circumstance which affects 90+ kids. Thank you for the donations for the amazing playground. We are grateful, really. We are NOT grateful for being cast-out for your schools bragging rights. And if roles were reversed (your kid getting kicked out at 11:45 vs 5pm I do believe you might be a little pissed off too. So, please let us vent and joke about calling Fox News and our kids going a day without quinoa. It's all we get. |
When we are dismissed at noon, we have lunch at 11am. Is Lee really not serving lunch? I think they have to in order to consider it a school day. |
Not Lee or IT parent but you Lee families need to take a chill pill. Really, the worst thing you have to complain about in a brand new building the first year is getting an early release day to make room for a new playground? Really? Lord, I am fearing the new Lee families will turn into the new bitchy YY parents. |
Can you read? We're not happy about being kicked out for VIP. Sorry if that bothers you, random person with no skin in this game... |
It is unnecessary to kick us out. And there are several families there for whom this will be a real hardship (not everyone works salaried jobs). And we are paying you rent to use your playground, so, no I am not grateful. |
speaking of rent, do we get a prorated day's rent back from IT? |
