Are these cute or butt?

Depends on your wardrobe and your feet, of course, but I think we have a winner:

If it's merrell you know it's well-built and comfortable.

Butt. Terrible. They would be ok if you are 80 and have overgrown, fungus infected toenails.

Cute and cargo pants do not belong in the same sentence...

Are you serious?

Ha. No. At first I was thinking maybe the blue ones but never the pink and now that I look at them again...I don't think it really matters. Both are equally a no for me. There is something about the style that makes them look super cheap to me. I think you can do a lot better than that.

OP, change course completely.

Look for a cute pair of sneakers. They are comfortable and very in right now. You could do anything from a bright colored Vans style slip on to plain white keds. Check out Kate Spade Keds. Even low top Chuck Taylor's would work.

OP, I think your first shoes are greats. Very Glastonbury vibe.

What about a cute espadrille wedge. Toms makes some cute ones. I hate to see a young person wearing "old people's" shoes. I am an old person and I don't even wear old people's shoes.

AWFUL.

Get birkenstock gizeh instead.

ugly.

Too clunky looking.

Grown ups don't use "butt" as an adjective.

I like the first ones that you posted. Would depend on your overall look, of course - but as a shoe, and given what you've said you are looking for in a shoe, I fail to see what is so objectionable about them.

They certainly aren't more clunky than Danskos or Sanitas (which I am wearing right now, because they are goddamn comfortable).

Would you wear them out to a nightclub? Maybe, if you were one of the normcore dressers:

And if you're just, like, a normal young-looking 40-something who wants to look cute while also being able to walk a lot, then I think those are also totally, 100% fine.

I would wear these in a heartbeat and they look like an improved version of the sandals you suggested:

PP, just in case you wonder, I am allergic to cats and have a parakeet, but secretly want a turtle!

These are very cute! But they don't look very comfortable.

What does butt mean? I'm guessing ugly, in which case they are BUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTT! Anyi Lu Linda on Zappos makes a very cute sandal. Don't know how to copy.
