what would cause just one leg to swell up?

OP Doctors can be wrong -- especially over the phone. My mother lost first her leg, then her life from this.

Posters like you are annoying! you post on here telling us of alarming symptoms, you refuse to consider that the doctor could be wrong, and you say that all you want to know is what could it be besides a clot?
if the doctor is so freaking amazing, why not find out what it could be from him/her? Either do the homework yourself or ask your doctor or take your husband to the ER.

People here are generous with their time and knowledge. It is frustrating when posters are neither respectful or grateful to those who respond.

I recently helped a 20 year old poster pinpoint marijuana use as probably source of her problem. Despite the source of the problem she was both respectful and grateful for the response, and I was happy to be of help. This is much more serious problem but OP persists in dismissing everyone who responds in a rather belligerent way.

I will -- I'm going with my husband tomorrow to talk to the doctor.

Really, that was all I was posting on here for.

I do consider the possibility that the doctor could be wring, but I just think in this case it is highly unlikely.

My husband is a very sick man, and has a team of doctors who have somehow managed to keep him alive despite it all, over the past 3 years. They are skilled and knowledgable, and at times they HAVE sent us to the ER, which we have experienced far too many time over the past 3 years for me to go when they DON'T advise it.

Wow, I don't know you folks have gotten so hostile. I posted previously that OP should take DH to the ER but I've totally backed down. I have lymphedema, I know what it is, and it is nothing like DVT. If OP's DH's doctor (and by the way, those of you who are for some reason furious because OP won't take your advice, don't have MDs I assume) who has taken very good care of him doesn't think its a DVT, you people on the internet don't necessarily know better.

PP just because someone once followed your advice here with success doesn't mean you know everything all the time and especially doesn't mean you can give out medical advice and get angry when it isn't followed.

Good luck OP. Maybe your only mistake was putting yourself out here for all the buttinskis. It sounds like your DH's doctors are responsive and you trust them, so thats where you should take future questions.

I feel like this is a relatively important piece of information you might have wanted to share when you asked DCUM what might be causing your husband's problem. I don't think you should be surprised when people were put off by your defensiveness and immediate reactions that the posters' responses were all wrong.
You made it sound like your husband all of a sudden had one swollen leg, called his PCP and took some quick advice over the phone, as opposed to a very sick man consulting a team of doctors intimately familiar with his case and his care. I don't think people should call you a dumbass but I don't think your query was very well informed.

Also, I think you should skip ahead and go to the ER today. But that's just me.

OP I am so sorry to hear that. I understand now that you are at the docs and ER so much. I am sorry you DH has another issue now. Not fun.

I've got prepatellar bursitis in my knee that caused a bunch of fluid around the knee, as well as fluid in the lower leg all the way down to my ankle.

Sorry! I just thought I was coming here to ask a quick question about what causes swelling on just one side of the body.

Had I understood the degree to which asking a question here implied acceptance of a social contract to (a) disclose all relevant medical history and (b) a promise to follow advice given, I might have given my post a bit more thought!

I'm with OP. You are not entitled to details. You are not entitled to have OP follow your advice. If you feel like you wasted your time, you did. Any time you post here (as I am doing right now) you are wasting your time. If someone follows your advice, great you helped someone. But don't get some kind of messiah complex that you are the savior of posters on DCUM.

I don't feel like I wasted my time (at least, no more than just being on DCUM in general), but OP has a bit of an attitude, no? That was my take on her posts, including her last one. This is one of the few forums where people are usually helpful without a lot of snark. I think the responses were genuinely trying to help OP and her husband and it didn't seem very appreciated.

I am interested in the actual diagnosis... Any word?
