what would cause just one leg to swell up?

Anonymous
I could understand both legs swelling but why just one?

Adult (male) leg -- red, swollen from about ankle to knee. No injury. No visible or known insect bit.

Yes, doctor has been called and he is going to in to have it checked out but I am curious what it could be.

Go to the emergency room, don't wait for a doctor's appointment. That sounds like a blood clot.

He called the doctor ( a very very good, thorough one) and was given an appointment for Fri morning! I assume the doctor had some reason for not sending him to an ER...

I'd go sooner. Is there an urgent care clinic he could go to?

PP again. Years ago my mother was at the dermatologist for some routine thing and casually mentioned some swelling in her leg. The derm took one look and had her admitted to the hospital. She had a DVT.

His medical history is extremely complicated; no urgent care clinic would be capable of dealing with it.
