what would cause just one leg to swell up?

These type of posts drive me crazy. I know OP will not listen but ER now is a good idea. I had swelling in my leg, no redness and found out after I ignored it for two days that it was a blood clot that became a PE. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks and out of work for 8 weeks and really happy to be alive.

My question wasn't "What should I advise my husband to do about this?" it was "what could cause just one leg to swell up?"

Aside from a blood clot, are there any other things that could do that?

Please believe me, my husband has several very serious medical conditions, and a VERY VERY good doctor. He consulted with his doctor, was asked numerous questions about his symptoms, and the doctor said it wasn't an emergency, come in Fri morning.

OP here .. I missed this post earlier. Thank you! I suspect this will turn out to be the diagnosis.

no, none.

If he is on medication, could be a side effect of medication.

For those screaming blood clot. Yes it could be but it could also be something else. I know because I have a chronically swollen leg that on occasion is painful and red in the calf area. I do not have DVT or a clot. I have had so many dopplers to check for this I have lost count.

OP here -- If it were a side effect of meds, I would assume it would affect both legs, though. Wouldn't it?

Any chance that your husband minimized his symptoms when the doctor was asking him questions?

Does he have a reason for this, such as having lymph nodes removed?

No, he's a pretty reliable reporter. And he likes his doc.

Infection of the nodes is a very likely possibility.

OP I hate to say it but you and the person you are posting for are dumbasses.

You don't fuck around with leg swelling. You go to a reputable hospital and either get on IV antibiotics for cellulitis or you get a dipper to rule out a DPT or you do a multitude of tests well before Friday and in a hospital setting that this "wonderful" doc probably can't do in his/her office setting anyway.

It may be lymphadema but waiting until Friday is stupid and negligent. If you were a parent and the other person a child - well you could be charged with not taking care of your child properly.

Why? He called his doctor. His doctor advised him no need to go to the ER unless he had certain symptoms or changes in his condition, that he could be seen Friday morning.

Why would I or my husband take advice from anonymous internet strangers, over a medical doctor who knows my husband's condition(s) and treatment(s) and current medication(s)?

Then why are you posting on here OP? His doctor talked to him on the phone and did not physically see him. Friday morning is too long to wait when a leg swells from the ankle to the knee. Good luck when his condition goes downhill and you are regretting waiting at home for 72 hours.

Because I wanted to know what condition it could be, besides blood clot.
