Our bar is much lower than whether a law is violated. That is particularly true where anonymous users discussing named individuals is concerned. There is a certain hyprocrisy in demanding both perfect anonymity for yourself and total freedom to post information about others who are identified by name.

Surely someone with several personal blogs has put thenselves out there as a public figure though, yes?

It sounds like the Muffy thread was an exception, but I am personally getting tired of OPs getting posts deleted for much lesser reasons, like regretting posting the topic. These are threads users have become invested in, and spent time thinking about and replying to. It seems unfair for the OP to then just go and request a deletion because he or she doesn't like the responses.

Jeff's sandbox. You play by Jeff's rules (he can delete as he sees fit). If you don't like it then you are free to take your Barbie and head to another sandbox.

Obviously he can do whatever he wants. That doesn't mean readers of the forums cannot have opinions about it.

Oh please, I doubt your opinions are as valuable as you perceive them to be.

Why are you so offended that I offered a simple opinion? Notice I said I personally am tired of deleted threads (though I don't have an opinion on the Muffy thread). My opinion is valuable to me, never said anything about it being valuable to anyone else.

Please understand that I am cognizant of the bolded point and it's something I take into consideration. The number of threads that I delete due to an OP's request is very small -- probably less than one a month. I guess it might seem like a lot if you happened to have posted in most of them, but it is really very few. Of those, most are removed because the poster unintentionally revealed too much personal information.

Anonymous wrote:You've deleted two threads about muffy Aldridge, faux prep of the daily prep blog, because her husband threatened you. Man up.

OP, 90% of the posts from the original thread can still be viewed on google cache. If you want to copy the content and repost it on wordpress or tumblr as a standalone muffy-gawking blog, go right ahead. Even if all the information posted in the thread was perfectly legal, that doesn't mean Muffy/her hubs/her golden retriever couldn't sue Jeff to remove the content, costing him time, money and headache, and possibly costing some posters their anonymity. As crappy as it is to have threads and posts deleted, this one of very few instances where it makes total sense.

FWIW, I will totally read your anti-muff blog if you create one.

Who would voluntarily change their name to "Muffy"? That is her real crime.

The only opinion that counts is Jeff's. He doesn't poll before deleting or have a group to make the decision. Frankly your opinion doesn't matter. He rarely deletes anyways.

+1! Why should I care?

OP, you are either really lame or really, really old because I have no idea who(m I guess for you) you're freaking out over.

Actually, I value users' opinions, even those in disagreement with me. In particular, her complaint that users make an effort to post well-thought out messages, only to see them deleted when an OP changes her mind about the wisdom of posting, is quite valid.
