If you are in the late 30-40's age range with young kids do you look your age?

I think it is very easy for women to look much younger. Sunscreen, a little Botox, daily skin care regime, gym membership, great colorist, and an awesome wardrobe really help to slow down the aging process. I am 43 and do look much younger than my age. I don't look 20, but I have seen many late 20s early 30's women who do not take care of themselves, and they look much older. Heavy, bad skin, graying hair, and clothes that do not flatter.

I disagree. People still generally look their age. They just look nice. My neighbor is very fit and takes excellent care of herself. She is probably a size 2 and I have never seen a gray hair on her. Her makeup is always done but very tasteful. She probably gets Botox. Her skin is great. But, I had her pegged around 45. Turns out she is 46. A great looking 46, but looks her age.

Im 43. I was recently chatted up by a guy at a cafe and after a bit he looked at my wedding ring and said "oh youre married " With two kids" I chimed in. Conversation drifted to kids age etc and he finally blurted out - how old are you.

When i told him he said - "I hope I look that good when Im that old "(he was 35!)

That put me in my place very firmly.

I've stopped deluding myself that my 20-something coworkers think I'm their peer. I might get "you don't look your age" compliments from older people, but the youngins, they know the truth.

Looking so put together is more common when one is older, in fact, imho. More time, more $$, etc. to dedicates to this "endeavor." That's why sometimes I think people think I'm younger when I am NOT put-together: short nails, hair back in a ponytail, etc. I think people would think someone my age would have it more together than this.

Sorry, I don't believe you.

I'm 40. I'm pretty sure I could pass for 38 though.

I do think that at a quick glance I might appear younger - I'm petite and dress kind of sporty, so at a glance someone might take me for early 30's. But up close, I'm pretty sure I look my age.

When will people learn that saying "OMG you look so much younger" or "O wow I thought you were ____ (enter an age 7 years below the age they know you are)" are COMMON courtesy compliments and truly mean nothing. Its another way of saying you looking great. Sorry to break your bubble but people don't think you are 31 when you are 44, they just don't.

ESPECIALLY if someone looks old, I guess their age a good 10 years younger than what I really think, just to be sure.

I found out a lady at my office is 45, I thought she was actually 50, so when her birthday was coming up, I asked her if it was her big 4-0 and then acted absolutely shocked when she said 45.

I don't think it's meant as a compliment, though, since it's often people wondering whether I'm still in high school/college (e.g. are you old enough to be married/have kids). For me it generally comes off as offensive as opposed to complimentary. Not to mention, if I were actually that young, it would be completely offensive for someone to speculate as to whether it's okay for me to have a kid.

LOL!!! OK!

I know this post is pure bullshit. NO ONE THINKS YOUR 36 YEAR OLD SELF IS IN HIGHSCHOOL. Ok, they don't. Have you seen a highschooler lately? Ya, you don't look like one. Or a college student, or a mid 20s something either. Just let go of it, its not the case.

Yes, but she is your neighbor so you have background knowledge on her.

If you pegged her for 45 then her skin can't be that great.

Um, no. I haven't slept in 3 years and I can't use any retin a or chemical-laden cosmetics because I am nursing my second kid. People still like to tell me I look young which is how I know it's total bullshit whenever anyone tells you that. I look my age and I'm fine with it.
