13:03 here.
DS found a $100 bill while we were shopping one day. His face was priceless, and he asked us immediately "who do I give this to?" DH took him to the cashier. The cashier said if nobody claimed it before we were finished shopping ds could have it. Nobody claimed it. We ended up splitting it with the cashier, she could have simply pocketed it and said someone came back for it. We suggested she buy pizza for the staff or something. |
And yet, I've seen many Catholics on this board use the Bible as a basis for arguments, such as, (paraphrasing) I knew you before you were formed in the womb to oppose abortion, or to condemn homosexuality, both things which Jesus never addressed. Then when you point out the absurdity of the Old Testament, they disown the OT as if it's not a part of Catholicism. The picking and choosing of what to accept in the Bible is another serious logical flaw among believers. |
That's quite a sweeping generalization. |
I think OP just can't hack debates with atheists and so, when she can't argue her point, she plays the victim and acts like the mean horrible atheist was mean to her. I don't see atheists standing outside clinics and calling women trying to get healthcare sinners and whores. I don't see atheists telling people they are going to hell because of who they love. And yet I've witnessed tons of incidents wherein Christians tell other people they are going to hell. Which is worse, telling someone they are going to hell or telling someone they are stupid? Which is worse, telling someone they are brain dead or trying to physically harass them while they exercise their legally protected rights to seek out the reproductive care of their choice? I'm tired of religious people playing the victim, like they're the ones being persecuted. Meanwhile, they push to be able to deny people service, deny people healthcare, deny people spousal protections, all based on beliefs that have no basis in actual reality and are impossible to prove/disprove. Believe whatever you want, but I think atheist are tired of people trying to convert them and tired of people trying to base laws and legal protections and even healthcare on belief instead of fact and science. Most Christians will fall back on this argument that atheists are mean because they aren't open to believing in god. But most Christians I've seen enter into debates are not at all open to the possibility that god doesn't exist. I prefer honesty over being polite. Dare I say it? This is a huge, stinking load of BS. To be clear: I'm not saying atheism is BS. Only that your post, complete with your sweeping generalizations, bad logic, and random insults, is BS. You make sweeping statements about religious people opposing healthcare, when in fact many liberal religious folks are extreme lefties (like me) and many libertarians who oppose a broader government role in healthcare (and social security and ) are atheists. You make up complete nonsense I've never heard anywhere ("Christians think atheists are mean because they aren't open to God") when instead it's just bad behavior (the aforesaid "wimp", "victim," "brain deal" and "drunk") insults that make religious people think you're mean. You delude yourself into thinking it's somehow acceptable to call religious people "brain dead" and "drunk" with impunity, and not have anybody call you "mean" for acting so badly. In what universe do you live, where this kind of debating schlock is considered deserving of serious thought? You're in denial. Or hypocritical. Or something. |
Reposting with formatting, so you'll definitely be able to read it.
Dare I say it? This is a huge, stinking load of BS. To be clear: I'm not saying atheism is BS. Only that your post, complete with your sweeping generalizations, bad logic, and random insults, is BS. Let me be clear. You make sweeping statements about religious people opposing healthcare, when in fact many liberal religious folks are extreme lefties (like me) and many libertarians who oppose a broader government role in healthcare (and social security and education) are atheists. You make up complete nonsense I've never heard anywhere before you wrote it just now ("Christians think atheists are mean because they aren't open to God") when instead it's just bad behavior (the aforesaid "wimp", "victim," "brain deal" and "drunk") insults that make religious people think you're mean. You delude yourself into thinking it's somehow acceptable to call religious people "brain dead" and "drunk" with impunity, and not have anybody call you "mean" for acting so badly. Way to debate yourself--probably the easiest way for you to win. Pat yourself on the back. |
Maybe we need a different thread: Atheists are Incapable of Introspection and Not at All Self-Aware . Well, just a small number of atheists, but definitely including the first PP above. |
I am. OP, your Subject Line shows that you've made the decision that you want to call out atheist behavior. Then you go on about "sheeple." How am I supposed to take you seriously? You're in a bad mood and want to spread it around. Newsflash: everyone has moments of bad behavior. However, in this society now, some "believers" never shut up, proceed like they begin from the moral high ground and actively try to impose their religious beliefs on others through restrictions on reproductive rights and imposition of "a moment of silence" in schools as a way to "bring back" prayer into the state school system. Compared to that active move to impose a belief system in a society that arguably believes in the First Amendment separation clause, a few individuals disagreeing with you on DCUM is no big deal. |
Way to show a complete lack of self-awareness, PP. Newsflash: nobody here has argued that religious people are perfect, or that they're never hypocritical. But apparently the whole idea of suggesting, even in a humble thread such as this one, that some atheists are occasionally hypocritical, is verboten. Lovely! |
| I don't think the OP said that SOME atheists are OCCASSIONALLY |
|
ARGH.
Hypocritical. It indicated that most atheists are often hypocritical because they are mean. |
Where do you get "some" and "occasionally" out of this?
|
| Why do you still beat your wife? Discuss |
Assholes exist everywhere. There are *some* extremists who say that the Bible says wives are to submit to their husbands, and extend that to mean wives can/should be beaten into submission if necessary. Huh.. I guess OP doesn't want to carry on with her topic anymore. |
| Atheists have no policy or code to uphold like religious folks. So only the latter can be hypocrites because their faith have certain requirements to be met. |
