| I just think it's important not to knock women who have achieved success..both of these discussed women have achieved that and it ain't so easy. Somehow JLD is considered the intellectual and my point is GR has a masters..she is not a dummy. Don't watch her shows that she has helped create..not just acted in..created..but putting her down..which is what was happening..is wrong. |
+10000. GR is a journalist and television personality. I don't think she is any different from Oprah or Katie Couric at the core -- would any of you criticize them??????? |
Agreed. Every school that has been around a long time has famous alums. It is meaningless. Who cares where some sitcom actress went to high school? |
| The people who went to the same school find it interesting and a fun fact. I don't see why it upsets people so much. This was just a light hearted thread and then of course the bashers had to arrive. |
|
PP here. I don't think I was putting down GR but she obviously is not on the same level as OW and KC. I just don't know how you can even compare. The body of work presented by OW and KC is impressive and their impact is broad. People around the world know of these two.
My point is that to GR is obviously having a successful career and at some point may reach the level of JLD, OW, KC, HC etc., but today, she is not on that level. Is she a role model? Sure! But is she a role model in the same way as the others? No! Giving interviews on the red carpet and producing shows on E! is not the same as staring in Seinfeld (which still runs 15 years after it ended), The New Adventures of Old Christine (which still runs), and Veep and winning a host of Golden Globes and Emmys in the process. Also, Hillary might have had marriage problems but you must admit that she came out of that experience w/o looking back. I despise the Clinton's but have respect for Hillary. Scary to admit but I am a fan. She is brilliant, sharp and ruthless. |
Ruthless? I see her as a coward. She should have left him and went her own way. THEN she would have my respect. |
| OK, we're all bored with this thread now. Can we move on to something more interesting? Say, adding to the thread about how to volunteer "free" time during this furlough? |
| Given how things played out, she made the right move. Fortunately, enough people like myself respect her which is why she will be the Democratic nominee. |
Lord help us |
Oh yeah? Well that's just fiction. Sidwell had its real-life version of "Breaking Bad" when a Sidwell grad Hugh Elsbree, was busted for running a Methamphetamine lab out of a DC apartment. Fortunately, he seems to have avoided trouble since serving a period under house arrest. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2202107/70-000-year-school-Obama-sends-daughters-hit-drug-sex-scandal.html http://dcist.com/2012/04/drug_dealer_meth_maker_family_man.php |
You need a hobby. |
| This kid had been out of Sidwell for more than a decade. Nothing like "breaking bad" where Walt was still at the school. |
You're describing a motivational speaker. A role model is a person whose behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, especially by younger people. (Get it? They "model" the "role," whether that role is "athlete" or "artist" or "mom" or "decent person".) The role model doesn't have to do anything to reach out to the people who want to emulate him or her. |
| This whole topic makes me want to yawn |
and yet you join the thread? |
