A different Holton mom here with something I didn't know.

Alum Melissa Bernstein ’94 also won an Emmy on Sunday as co-executive producer of “Breaking Bad” for Best Drama. The series won a total of ten emmys. Very cool.

That is cool. Nothing wrong with Holton-Arms being proud of an alum who has done well. Stop the hating, people, because you know you'd be happy if your kids' school had a cool alum - don't lie to yourself!

Oh, and before you call me out....I have nothing to do with Holton-Arms (my kids go to another school. Sorry to say it, but I'm not into the single sex education thing)

Wait, is Julia Louis Dreyfus related to the financial Dreyfuses? I did not know that.

Please people! JLD could be considered a role model in terms of her success. She might have been born with a silver spoon in her mouth but at least she went out into the world in did something with the head start she was provided. So many people don't. Re: GR, I don't know why anyone would consider her anything but a TV personality -- actually she does not have much of a personality from what I have seen. I am not knocking her but we should differentiate between someone who has accomplished something like winning and Emmy and being a part of two hit shows and someone who has not.

Did you not read about Guliana's background? Seriously? She has a masters degree and she helped build E (she has been there a long time and helped create some of their fashion shows as well as the red carpet brand. Just because you don't like entertainment news doesn't mean someone hasn't accomplished anything. She also has a design brand that is successful and does a ton of charity work. She is the daughter of immigrants who really have lived the American dream. How is she different the JLD? They are both accomplished? Just because you don't like an personality of someone doesn't take away their accomplishments. And you are knocking her.

I think both women are terrific role models for all young women in this area (not just girls at Holton and Whitman). It is shameful to see anonymous posters try to tear down women that have achieved success.

PP here. I don't discriminate and will tear down phonies no matter their race, sex, sexual orientation, religion or ethnic background. Glad to know that Guliana has been with E for a while. Based on your definition everyone at E is a role model. My point is that JLD has been on several shows that have had a huge impact on American culture. That impact can be felt across generations and in other countries. People think differently after watching her performances than the did before doing so. She is someone who has made an impact and worthy of being a role model. Again, I am not knocking Guliana. I am happy that she has been able to accomplish what she has in her career and I hope she achieves more success but if you gave me or others a list of people to include as role models, that list would probably include Hillary Clinton, Samatha Powers, Michelle Obama, Angela Merkel and Angelina Joliee. If asked, most would probably say that JLD should be included. As a conservative, the before mentioned are not may favorite people although I admire them and what they have accomplish. No knock against Guliana, but she is not in the same class.

PP seems to be most impressed by women who marry future presidents.

Or are future presidents themselves.

Hilary Clinton as a role model. Stayed with her husband after he was Fing around on her. Yes, that is a role model I want my daughter to follow. Give me a break!

I have also been called Holton mom just because I have a student there and we like the school. We also think JLD is pretty cool - we were big fans of Seinfeld before entering Holton and Veep is pretty good too. Sorry, we like the school, we are proud to have some good alums, and have no reason to say anything but good things about both.

Went to Whitman with GR (who was known as Julie DePandi then). She was nice and a decent person. One of my good friend dated her for a bit, so I got to know her somewhat well outside of school also.

I have nothing against Holton (or Whitman for that matter) but this is the dumbest thread ever. Who cares where these people went to school?
