| Holton grad Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Whitman grad Giuliana Rancic gave props to their respective schools during a red carpet interview before last nights Emmys. Great role models for the young women in this area regardless of the public or private school they attend. |

Role Models? Why? I can't stand how people encourage that. A role model is usually someone who is nto out in the public eye encouraging someoen to be the best person they can be to give back and encourage people to follow through with their desires.
If they wanted to be role models they would be at those schools on their time working with kids who want to go into the arts. I went to a school in Ohio where a very famous actor went, he spent a lot of his time with us working on our school productions, singing, dancing, improv. He never came in a for hire car, he never came with a group of handlers, he just showed up, rolled up his sleeves and gave back. I have not seen or heard of any celeb that would do that now. That person I speak of who would come to our school several times a year, Paul Newman. |
| How is inherited wealth good for a role model?? |

| JLD remains close to friends from Holton and she is a big proponent of all girls schools – basically saying that she did things at Holton that she would not have done if there had there been boys in the classroom. |
| Welcome back Holton mom. |
| How exactly is Giuliana Rancic a role model? JLD I can see, she's a talented actress. But Giuliana Rancic is famous for...uhm, what again? Marrying some guy who won a reality show, and giving her opinion on clothing. Or something like that. No idea why she's on TV. She's not an actress, she's just...on TV? For some unfathomable reason. |
Agreed. Not to mention consistently denying that she has an eating disorder - that may or may not have affected her fertility - when it's clear she does. |
Sure it is -- it just skips a generation. We should all be telling our daughters "If you marry a billionaire, then maybe your daughter can grow up to be Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. If you send her to Holton." Cue DCUM's armchair statisticians to compute how the odds that you'll be a billionaire vary depending on which local private your child attends. |
| Oh come on. Any school should be proud to have JLD as an alum. |
This would be fascinating to study, especially if we could compare percentage of parent billionaires versus percentage of students who go on to be billionaires, to see whether it rises or falls at each school over time. But I don't think we have enough data to do it right. |
| Can the Holton PR liaison please post a link to this pre-interview where the shout-out occurred? I'm curious to see exactly what was said. I cannot find it online. |
|
Giuliani is not the type of person I would want as a role model for my children. Eek.
JLD maybe, but I don't know enough about her to be sure. |
| I can't find the interview on-line either. I have trouble believing that high school would be what JLD spoke about on her way into the Emmys. I think OP is Holton mom confabulating. |
|
It was hardly a shout out. GR said to JLD "I'm from Bethesda too! I went to Whitman but lived across the street from Holton Arms" then they both said something like "Go Bethesda"
