Lifetime in Reston

Anonymous
I have been a member of LT Reston for about 6 weeks now. My fiancé and I joined for $180/month (no kids). I have a couple questions/comments:

1. With the intro assessments and LT bucks, are these legit or scams to get me to purchase more biological tests and packages with a nutritionist and trainer? I purchased the cortisol/stress test ($265) to see why I am not losing weight despite good diet/exercise. Met with the nutritionist and she was helpful, but recommended ALOT (like 5) supplements for purchase in the café and a detox package she leads for two weeks ($110+), as well as a hormone test (around $300).

2. This place is basically a community center or day care. In the Reston gym, the mom's all bring their kids into the women's locker room b/c it is right next door to the kids center. Also, I am CONSTANTLY dodging children going to/from locker room. Also, I was kicked off a gym court because there was a kids class there. There are also kids' birthday parties on weekends there. I thought I was joining a gym, not a day care or kids camp. It is very misleading. While I hope to have children one day and love them dearly, I need my workout time to be relaxed. This place seems like a hangout for families, especially people who don't want to deal with their kids on the weekends.

I appreciate any thoughts on these, especially the recommended testing.

Thanks,

First, they've recently lowered the prices and you should be able to get it for 140. The Sterling and Centreville clubs have 14o and are recipical so they match the price.

Yeah, the assessments, and LT bucks are a scam. You'd think at the prices they charge everything wouldn't be extra and the upsell is quite annoying. For the supplements, if you are deficient in a specific area, good to know but CVS is cheaper. A lot...

We have kids so maybe I guess I don't notice, but usually there are no kids in the locker room other than after pool. They're is a separate family locker room but is dysfunctional.

So if you join Lifetime Reston now, it is $140 for a couple? Will they renegotiate if you already joined at a higher rate?

Omg I inquired about it a couple months ago and they call and email me all the time!!!! It's so annoying and desperate.

They are advertising 180 but will negotiate. I was previously at sterling for 140. When they downgraded I went in and said I wanted my sterling rate back and they changed it with no fuss. They are not advertising it though...

We left Lifetime years ago because everyone brings their kids into the locker room. Call me a prude, but I felt very uncomfortable changing my clothes while someone's ten year old son watched. I made multiple complaints, but nothing changed so we left.

1. You can do the assessments and use the LT bucks without spending any extra money of your own. They do try to push heart rate monitors and metabolic assessments, but again you don't need to purchase.

2. Did you not see children at the gym when you toured it? I am at LT 5 days/week, while I do see children there, it is not the way you describe it.

3. Why didn't you do the 2week trial before joining?

At first I thought it was alright at $250 per month. But then they sold us personal trainers and overpriced supplements. Now we're up to $1000 per month and thinking we've made a mistake. This week they are pushing heart monitors on members at $200 each. The place isn't much fun because they are constantly trying to sell you something new or raising the price of the training sessions. We'll stay a little longer and then we're out!

If you let them talk you into spending $1000/month, I can't even. I mean, seriously??? What kind of disposable income do you have that you would do that? Cray-cray baby.

I used to be a member of Lifetime Centreville when I lived in that area. I never saw any kids in the locker room the entire time I was a member there. There was a family locker room for going in and out of the pool.

Everyone (including myself) just dropped the kids off first then went on to locker room and picked up kids last after the workout.

It just inches up by one more training class, and one more trainer quits and the next one is more expensive, and one more blood test, and one more carbon dioxde exhalation test, and one more stress test, one colon cleanse.

They don't just hit you with a $1000 bill when you walk in the door. It's just that they keep telling you that you'll never get into condition unless you buy more hours with a trainer, you'll probably die young if you don't get your metabolism tested and develop a plan and without a good colon cleanse every six months you'll develop colon cancer.

Before you know it you are charging more than $1000 per month to the your credit card in which is automatically linked to your Lifetime Club Membership Card. When you buy products and services you don't even have to give them your credit card. You just give them your membership card because on the first day when you sign up, you must give them permission to tap into your credit card simply by scanning your Lifetime Gym Membership Card.

I just toured the Lifetime Fitness in Reston and as a former member of Equinox Tysons, it looks amazing. I like the idea of the kids classes. Would anyone with a 3 year old child feel comfortable leaving them there? The membership advisor said they have a max ratio of 12:1 kids to adults there. How are the karate / dance / swimming classes for kids?

The rate for one person is $110/month. The cost for a second adult in the family is $70 more and a child is $30 more, so it's $220 for 2 adults and one child. Membership is month-to-month with a 30-day required notice.

Our kids are 6 & 7 and we have no concerns at all leaving them there. I'd think 3 yo would be fine. Safe & well monitored.

The classes are good (swimming is an extra fee) but they're is usually only one option and they are very light on the weekends. If you can schedule your workouts around the classes it works well. Otherwise you get what's on the schedule. The Karate classes are very basic. Fun, but not for anyone thinking of getting a black belt or anything someday. The instructor is good with kids.

I think you can save some money by joining in Chantilly or sterling and using reciprocity.

They overcharge, but it is the nicest club around. I just have a bitter taste in my mouth.... It's double Sport & health and triple 24hour fitness & gold's..

They've officially downgraded to an onyx club. If you're a member you have to go ask to have your rates lowered however. It's still not a good "value" but it is nice

Did they change the price of Kids Academy?
