Seriously? "New Founders" at Creative Minds?

Anonymous
OP- where did you hear about this to begin with?

the founding members listed in the document cited above does not include all founding members. I do know one founding member (truly founding) who was recruited early on, but is not listed there. I have some reason to believe there is some drama over the children of members getting spots (not on WL but getting spots ahead of lottery) but I do not have specifics or proof, so really, at this point, its unfortunate rumor, and it can be damaging to anyone who appears on the board list and who has kids in the school, or more broadly to the school in general. I agree that at this point someone from CM might want to clarify, if only to dispel incorrect rumors.

Children of board members? Or founding members?

Founding members always get spots....

The PCSB regards the listed founders as founders. I'm not sure how they will take to other founders, new founders, future founders, etc.

Talk to the school tomorrow. I expect they will be open and transparent in their dealings.

Also ask where they will be after the next school year. I'm dying to know! If they go to NE will the WOTP families follow?

Talk to who exactly?

Email the Principal, I have been told that she is responsive. I you are uncomfortable going that route call or better yet email PCSB.

Phew, why anyone would subject themself to dcum by starting a school is beyond me

Founders can be recruited for some time after the application is approved. They do have to be identified, although not sure of the process. The family in question could have been added as a founding family after the application then applied when their children were eligible. Agree with others if you're interested, contact the principal.

The only thing I find funnier than the "My kids are sooooo blessed to have two married, college-educated parents of a high SES. Oh, they've hit the best lottery in the world, the only one that matters in fact" (as they bemoan the fact they're on a waitllist) and the "DC teachers are soooooo intimidated by my highbrow education and SES. Why that must be the reason they won't just let us run the schools" is the lynch mob that forms over a bunch of rumors.

But the charter was approved in he spring of 2011. And this "Founder" identified after the lottery this year - which is why peopel moved back on the waitlist. If this truly was a founder, they would never have gone through the lottery. The kids would have been pulled to the front before the lottery occurred. Given the order of events, it seems that they are trying to do something that is not on the up and up.

The PCSB should be contacted and made aware. They can not take action if they do not know.

Assuming this rumor is even true, I don't see anything improper going on. Adding founders after the application is approved is not unusual. Take a look at the DC Scholars charter application and it says the same thing about recruiting more members to the Founding Group.

People are freaking out about founders being added, but it makes total sense to me that approved schools would need a ton of help between the application process and actually getting the school up and running. It seems that the PCSB recognizes this as well which is why they allow members to be added to the founding group, but it's also a good thing that the PCSB puts a cap on the number of students that can be given preference this way.

Sweet jesus, can we recognize how badly DCPS has let parents down when we've come to this waitlist hell? Where is a leader who can de-fuse the racial tensions preventing subject-based tracking in the public schools?
