Cross-posting from another thread:
We are also so far down the waitlist that we don't have a hope of getting in, but I'm really disappointed to hear that a "new founder" and her twin 3 year olds displaced others from the entering class. Is this rumor true? Are people really buying their way into these slots? |
| I think it's a "him" not a her... |
| How does one become a "new founder"? Aren't the founders' names listed on either the charter application or the articles of incorporation? |
| Could we discuss this without giving away identifying details? This is a small town and I believe I know this family. |
| Why not contact the charter board and put in a complaint. What a crock of BS that they get away with this. |
| Is it cheaper to become a new founder or just go private? |
|
contact public charter school board - they either are or are not founders. there is no such thing as "new Founders"
Where did you see this "new founder" designation? |
| What does it mean to be a "new founder"? Is Abedin leaving? |
|
I thought Board Memebers did not automatically get founder status.
Seriously - call PCSB. This is about integrity of the system and if the PCSB knew this, they should not look the other way. |
| Do Board members get to send their kids to the school without doing lotteries? |
That is correct. A board member is not necessarily a founder, nor is a founder necessarily a board member. |
And you have done the right thing and reported them to the PCSB, right? Just because you think DC is some podunk town, doesn't mean that people can break the rules just becasue everyone is going to know who they are. |
| Please report this. Enough is enough. At least post the name so somebody brave on hear can do it. Until people start not putting up with this BS, it'll continue. There's people on the WL who don't deserve to have their seat stolen by these cheaters. I'd be really pissed if I was no. 1 and no. 2. Certainly, we know there's two sides to every story and maybe the "new founder" isn't. Whatever. Let the board deal with it. |
| The facts need to be established before judgement is declared. OP mentioned hearing this a rumor. Can that be verified? |
Call the PCSB and ask how you may see a school's charter application, which is public information. Here is a link to the start-up application guide: http://www.dcpubliccharter.com/School-Leaders/Start-a-Charter-School.aspx On page 39 is: F. Résumés, Board Member Agreements, and Statements of Interest and Qualifications Submit a résumé, board member agreement, and a signed personal statement, in that order, from each founding member that describes his/her interest in the proposed charter school, his/her role in the development of the application, his/her role should a charter be granted, and the expertise and resources that he/she will bring in establishing the proposed charter school. Either someone is included in that document as a founder, or they are not. They cannot be added later on as founders. As board members, yes they may, but not as founders. |
