What is going on at Sidwell is NOT just a “sex scandal”

I’m not one of the “inner voice” people, but I would consider this (all in the past three years) to be indicative of an abusive environment.

A longtime 8th grade teacher at Sidwell Friends School admitting to fondling a 15-year-old Sidwell boy.
Sidwell’s staff psychologist doing an “in home” evaluation of a pre-K girl and bedding the mom shortly thereafter –as the little girl was in adjacent room.
8th grade Sidwell girls talking about male P.E. teachers that try to hit on them.
A bullying incident at Sidwell involving Bob Woodward’s daughter and a deliberate disclosure of confidential details provided by the young girl.

So did they keep this under wraps until after admissions process was wrapped up? How convenient.

Anonymous wrote:So funny to witness lack of outrage from Sidwell parents. Sidwell provides the culture the parents demand. Fondle my kid; F$ck my wife - but make sure my kid goes to HYP and whatever you do don't let the STA parents know what is going down here. I couldn't bear the embarrassment.

+1 This is why people really attracted to Quaker values don't go there. I hear Sandy Springs is more true to Quaker roots.

OP did not state anything that was not already in the news ands therefore public knowledge. It is unfortunate that a child was identified in the public documents, but OP did not "call out someone's daughter."

Sidwell understands the priorities of its stakeholders. Keeping things hush hush is more important than protecting the 8th graders from predators.

I agree.
So disgusting.

The issue was rekindled with a Washingtonian article last week

My impression is that Sidwell parents are, on average, older than parents at other schools. There are some second marriage couples to be sure, but I think there are a lot of parents who put off children to the last possible moment. Maybe to focus on career? Does that explain the focus on external perception?

So, does all this bashing of Sidwell parents now apply equally (or more) to the Cathedral school parents?

Umm. The case doesn't involve either of these things. According to the complaint I am pretty sure they were divorced at the time of the relationship. Big deal. All the pr in the world won't change that. Poor kid.

The Beauvoir parents ignored warning signs just as Sidwell parents.

Suggestion: all of you: get a job. Or a hobby. This absurd back and forth is not worthy of you. I suddenly feel like I'm back in highschool. Get a life.
