I’m disturbed that what has been going on at Sidwell is being called a “sex scandal.” There is plenty of sex involved, but it ranges from immoral to distrusting and deviant. I’m not one of the “inner voice” people, but I would consider this (all in the past three years) to be indicative of an abusive environment.
A longtime 8th grade teacher at Sidwell Friends School admitting to fondling a 15-year-old Sidwell boy. Sidwell’s staff psychologist doing an “in home” evaluation of a pre-K girl and bedding the mom shortly thereafter –as the little girl was in adjacent room. 8th grade Sidwell girls talking about male P.E. teachers that try to hit on them. A bullying incident at Sidwell involving Bob Woodward’s daughter and a deliberate disclosure of confidential details provided by the young girl. |

| Yes it's pretty toxic. |
| Lack of institutional control at Sidwell. |
| Toxic. How can the President possibly keep his children in this environment. They must transfer. |
| Totally agree with you OP |
| Please let us know what grades will have openings after you transfer your kids. |
Wait, what? You don't have kids at the school? Huh. |
|
Tragically there are plenty of parents who don't care that this is going on at Sidwell. They are more embarrassed by the negative publicity.
Sidwell understands the priorities of its stakeholders. Keeping things hush hush is more important than protecting the 8th graders from predators. |
| An awful lot of covering-up is being discovered. Sidwell's reputation will be hurt by this. I just can't believe a school would act as it has, protecting its own and certain adults' reputations rather than the interests of its students. There is something very wrong with the culture at Sidwell. |
| This thread is bullshit. Maybe Beauvoir should be shut down for having a predator in its presence who is/was on the FBI's most wanted list. |
When you talk about the culture, you CANNOT separate it from the kids who attend. Harvard, Princeton, etc, will not kick them to the curb regardless of the opinions of DCUM, thank God. |
| So funny to witness lack of outrage from Sidwell parents. Sidwell provides the culture the parents demand. Fondle my kid; F$ck my wife - but make sure my kid goes to HYP and whatever you do don't let the STA parents know what is going down here. I couldn't bear the embarrassment. |
Would Sidwell get rid of someone like that or keep him on the staff? The knee jerk reaction is "of course" but history suggests otherwise. The guy picked the wrong school. The "inner voice" isn't working. |
When you don't publish matriculation, you can pretend everyone goes to HYP and when you don't let parents know that teachers are hitting on 8th graders you can pretend everything is just fine. Of course. Everything MUST be fine because the President sends his daughters here. Everything is just fine. Ignore the man behind the curtain. Everything is fine. |
