FWIW I believe that women should have equal rights...hell I make more than my DH and will always work. But there are sometimes when you need to let DH have his "balls" back and this classifies as one of them.

I need to be able to look at my DH and see a man...a strong man...not some wimp who took my name willingly.

Well I think your husband making less money is a lot wimpier than if he had taken your last name.

I took my husband's last name, but if I had to choose, I'd choose a provider who took my last name. Not someone who's a man in name only, literally.

Seriously bitch? You must be joking. Not even worth my time.

No, I'm not worth your time. Your time would be better spent focusing on your career, since your husband's obviously not focusing on his.

it might make sense if the woman was important like royalty or a famous business name but lets be honest everyone in DC thinks they are really important because they wrote a few papers or have their name in the law books. BUt guess what, there are thousands like you so no one is really important.

Money does not buy love or happiness. Its really gross that you rely on your DH to be the breadwinner. Let me guess you are a SAHM miserable wench whose DH works all day and then fucks another woman on the side. Sorry that spending his money does not make you happy. Obviously you make no one happy.

Well said. I would admire such a man. I am a woman, but found it hard to take my husband's name (and didn't). It must be much harder for a man.

And it's really gross that you think a man looks like a wimp if he takes his wife's last name. You said you believe that because you believe some things should stay traditional.

I say that a man should be the breadwinner in the family- a stance that is traditional- and you go nuts and call me a bitch (not very traditionally ladylike of you) and a miserable wench, and tell me my husband must cheat on me. It's pretty obvious that you're likely insecure about the fact that you'll "always have to work" and earn more money than your husband.

I guess you can express your opinion but no one else can express theirs, huh?

Yes I see what you are trying to do. Yes I like to cuss...its definitely not lady like but I am who I am. I am "insecure" because "I always have to work". Are you kidding me? I worked hard as hell for what I have and I enjoy being in the work force using my brain. I constantly set goals and achieve them and being a SAH is not what I want.

If you were trying to make a point about the income and name and correlating it to the "mans" traditional role bway back when so be it. However, if you do truly believe that because one spouse makes more than the other, the one is not as worthy thats sad. And if you are a SAHM then you would know first hand thats ridiculous. So you must not be worthy then since you make less than your DH huh? The MAN is NOT the PLAN for me. And I also do not want to take my husbands balls and chop them off. Which is my opinion (yes mine) about a man taking a woman's last name.

I wasn't being serious, I was making a point. Also, I never stated my occupation, you only assumed that I was a SAHM.

For someone who doesn't have any time for me, you've spent a lot of time on me.

Guy here. Wife kept her name and I kept mine, kids are hyphenated. Why doesn't your brother either do that or
Give the kids the wife's name? Or both hyphenate? I know a number of couples that have done that.

Regardless, let them do what they want to do. Keep your opinions within the family to yourselves. This is to be worked out on their own.

Your brother sounds like a P. I give the marriage 5 years.

Anonymous wrote:Is this a common thing now? My brother is getting married, and is wife is the only child of two only children. So, she wants to pass on her name, which is both of her parent's names. I have three other brothers in addition to the one getting married, and I think it is an interesting idea. Of course my parents are horrified. They will not say anything to the couple, but they feel they should just add our family name onto hers. It would be a super long name sort of like Johnson-Jacobsen-Hingeldorfer. I told my mom to just let it go, but she feels my brother is being a wimp.

Great point.

Except that almost no one actually thinks this. Not that great a point, in my view.

So your view is the correct view?
