My dogs are old and crepid and I have two under two

Made an appt with my vet, took both pups in and had them euthanized.

Toddler didn't notice initially but a day later she asked about the "puppies" as we were going downstairs -- she was used to hugging the railing as the boys always seemed to bolt past her. I said they went bye-bye and she accepted it and that was that.

One week out my stress level has decreased by 100% and my get ready time in the AM for taking the kids to "school" has decreased by 20 minutes.

The last image I have of the boys their tails were up although both were limping so I know it was the right thing to do.

Thanks for reading my ramblings

The kid was hitting or leaning on the dogs painful hip and it reacted.

OP is a cruel & nasty person, but hey, she shaved 20 minutes off her morning routine thanks to the dead dogs, so life is good!

Just wait. In a few years the kids are going to be asking for a pet and the stupid OP and her DH will start all over again, and be irresponsible pet owners all over again, with a new dog. They should go on a "do not adopt" list.

You are some piece of work lady.

OP, I'm on your side here. Family and humans come before pets.

That said, PLEASE do not get pets again. It is clear you are not capable of handling them financially or emotionally. No shame in that, but it's important to remember.

What a rough place to be in OP. It is obvious you love your dogs. I think you need to do what is best for your family as a whole. Your kids come first ahead of animals and if you don't have the finances, you don't have them. Maybe someone could take them. I don't think you are a bad person at all OP, I feel for you.

Where did she say that her kids are being harmed by the dogs? I'm sorry but OP wants permission to kill her dogs (and not feel guilty about it) because they are no longer convenient for her, not because they present a harm to her children.

Okay - just read your update OP.

Way to justify killing your dogs. Whatever. You suck and you probably realize that. You killed your pets b/c they were no longer convenient for you. Yikes.

But please - I beg of you - DO NOT get any more pets. Just don't. One day, your kids will be older and will start asking for dogs, etc. Just say no. You are no longer equipped to handle pets.

OP - The Washington Animal Rescue League has assistance programs to help people pay for veterinary care, if they can't afford it themselves.

My heart breaks hearing this story. I can't really offer sound advice because I'm so in love with my pets that I really can't fathom making the decision to euthanize them for lifestyle reasons.

But if cost really is the sole or main issue, please check with WARL and see if they, or another local shelter, can help your pets get the care they need.

Just read the update. Forget the advice to try WARL.

Would like to go hug my dog now.

sick of the guilt the vet industry and peta put on people

PETA is more or less anti-pet entirely, and the veterinarian is the one who euthanized the dogs. So I think you might be focused on the wrong parties here.

OP if you want a pet in the future maybe go for a fish. Or a pet rock..

So the second dog who did nothing wrong got taken on the euthanasia trip just because? I know it's hard to have little kids and pets but this is ridiculous. Agree that you shouldn't have any pets again.

So the anxious large old dog bit the toddler and OP euthanized both dogs!!!! One bit so kill both? They aren't pups.

I forgot to add that the negligent owner/parent OP didn't take the child to the doctor or ER after being bitten by a large dog! What parent does not take a child to the doctor after a dog bite?

When these pets pass, please do not get any more.

She has had them for ten years ! OP, is the dog with hip dysplasia on pain? We had to put our German Shepherd down before he was a yr. old when I was growing up. Call an animal rescue center and talk with someone and see if they have any suggestions. I don't believe any vet would put down a healthy dog or one that is simply old but not on any pain. As they are litter mates they might grieve themselves to death, if separated. Good luck and I hope you find a good solution .
