My dogs are old and crepid and I have two under two

I hate pets, but geez you are one cruel lady OP. I wish I could just inject humans to kill them, when they annoy me. For the dog with the hip problem, I pray he is not in any pain. Really cruel OP. Go to every vet and beg them for medicine. You would do what you have to do for your kids, do what you have to do for your dogs. They were there before your children. You owe it to them. Dogs can not take care of themselves. They need YOU.

She's trying to be responsible. Just because she's considering options that don't you don't approve of, does not make her irresponsible. Give her a break and try having a little perspective. If you want to help, consider adopting her two dogs.

She's trying to be the opposite of responsible. She never said her dogs are dangerous or in pain. She just finds them inconvenient and expensive, so she wants to "transition past" them. What a horrible thing to say.

OP you should call your vet and/or other local vet clinics and tell them your situation. If you truly can't afford veterinary care (and you're not just prioritizing it below other unnecessary things) I bet they will come up with a way for you on a sliding scale or payment plan. To just ignore it is shameful. That's really the only word for it.

You need to feel bad and own that guilt & responsibility because you are killing them. No quotations needed.

ITA. Killing = feeling bad.

People, get a grip. These are not humans, they are dogs. Give the OP a break. Personifying the dogs doesn't advance the convo. It just doesn't.

theres a reason humans dominate all other animals. to domesticate them and use them until a time which we decide.

some of you folks are unbelievably cold and callous fuckers....

may those of you who fit that bill get the same consideration (or lack of it) when you are at the mercy of others.

No. OP is not trying to be responsible. She wants everyone to tell her it is somehow ok to kill her dogs. She is disgusting.

OP, perhaps when you are old and crepid (sic), someone will find you annoying and suggest euthanasia for you as well. A pet is a commitment.

Dogs can take aspirin for pain. One tablet wit food a couple times a day should be fine. Take a baby/toddler tshirt that fits the dog tightly and put it on the anxious one. That might help with the anxiety.

OP here with an update... we didn't see what happened but the toddler was "playing" with the crankier of the two dogs; he ended up biting her on the face (nose); we did not go to ER but that was my sign they were "done". Made an appt with my vet, took both pups in and had them euthanized.

Toddler didn't notice initially but a day later she asked about the "puppies" as we were going downstairs -- she was used to hugging the railing as the boys always seemed to bolt past her. I said they went bye-bye and she accepted it and that was that.

One week out my stress level has decreased by 100% and my get ready time in the AM for taking the kids to "school" has decreased by 20 minutes.

The last image I have of the boys their tails were up although both were limping so I know it was the right thing to do.

Thanks for reading my ramblings

You actually came back five months later to tell us you put your dogs down? You couldn't make peace with this on your own, and keep this to yourself? Now that's sick.

I volunteer to euthanize the OP.

I'm old and come from flyover America and I completely sympathize with the OP. When I was a kid, if a dog broke its leg or just had really bad hips, it would get put down. Nobody questioned it. Our relationship to pets and dogs was a world away from what is the norm in 2012 Washington. It's a good kind of progress.
