We had to put our German Shepherd down before he was a yr. old when I was growing up. Call an animal rescue center and talk with someone and see if they have any suggestions. I don't believe any vet would put down a healthy dog or one that is simply old but not on any pain. As they are litter mates they might grieve themselves to death, if separated.
