OP again and last response to all the haters

I have had dogs for my entire life... the changing point was the birth of my 2nd child; it just became too much.

Maybe some of you super parents could have handled two old dogs and two under two better than I; woop for you.

I loved my dogs and took care of them to the extent I could, then when they gave me the signal they were ready I was OK with taking them in to be euthanized and my vet was OK with them being euthanized because they had their history on file.

So to the haters, get over it. And if you can't, I don't care. I'm over it. I know I did the right thing by letting them go with dignity.


Come back when you've had to put your precious pup to sleep and tell me I was a bad person for doing the same. gah.

I had to put my precious pup to sleep and you are a bad person. Labrador retriever age 14. But my lab never bit a child- so there is NO excuse for putting down both old dogs. Vet OK with euthanzing a dog? Well the vet might have thought it was better than an old dog never being adopted and put down at a pound or living with a negligent owner.

OP - you can't rationally think that what you did was okay, can you? Do you really think that it is okay to get rid of your pets after having kids? That seems to be what you are saying, and I find that repulsive. You are already over killing your dogs? Okay. Letting them go with dignity? So killing BOTH dogs, while admitting that your PRIMARY motivation was b/c it was too much stress for you after the birth of your second child, is not "letting them go with dignity". You are delusional if you think what you did was the humane thing.

This thread just breaks my heart; we had to put down my family's beloved elderly dog this spring. I still miss her dearly.

So it's hard for me to sympathize with OP, the way she's described her situations. There's something very callous in how she's describing euthanizing her dogs - cheering about an extra 20 minutes in the morning, or a cleaner house. It just sounds like OP doesn't care about her companions of a decade at all. Didn't feel conflicted. Didn't love the dogs.

Maybe she did; maybe she felt she had no other choice, for financial and/or other reasons. That's not how it comes across. It comes across like the dogs were just inconvenient. That's an attitude toward animals that's hard for me to get my mind around.

PS to PP - yes, I am a vegetarian. Have been all my life.
