I'm not disputing the law here. I'm just speaking to common curtesy. If you don't get what I'm saying here--well, you just don't get it. And you probably are living a pretty selfish, f*ck you, sort of existence--one PP even said f*ck you to me--oh, the irony.

Please explain why accomodating your unusual desire to sleep late is "common courtesy."

9 a.m. is fine time to mow the lawn. There is absolutely nothing discourteous about it.

Maybe you suffer from cognitive dissonance, but you don't get to demand silence while you sleep past 9 a.m. and then call those who pushback "selfish."

The solution here is for you to approach your neighbor, politely, and tell him you'd appreciate it if he didn't mow the lawn at 0900 and as a gesture of good faith you will pay for a service to mow it later in the day.

9 am is not that early and lawn mowers arent that loud, they dont wake me up.

OP, you are the selfish one here.

There is nothing wrong, discourteous, or unlawful about mowing at 9am on a Sunday morning.

That seems like a bit much to ask, don't you think?

Not the paying for a lawn service part . . . I'm just not sure this OP has it in her to be polite.

Be glad it's not 7:05...

Hey OP - what time did you go to sleep?

Maybe the lawn-cutting neighbor will see this thread .....

And if so, what should the response be?

I love to sleep in and my kids are older so technically I can, yet I was out of the house at 8 am yesterday and today for kids sports games. I fit in yard work when I can. If that's 9 am on a Sunday then that's when it has to be.

OP we got all new windows 2 years ago and it made a huge difference in blocking outside noise. Maybe consider that.

No suggestions, just an observation.

Anonymous wrote:I'm with you, OP. I live in AU Park and have a neighbor who likes to mow the lawn at 9:00 Sunday morning. I think it's pretty inconsiderate to use power equipment before 10:00. And it's not a question of that being the only time slot available all weekend long, it's just when he decides to do it, neighbors be damned. But for many of us, Sunday morning is the one time during the week where we can try to sleep in or else just relax a bit before kicking off yet another busy day. I don't understand why some people fetishizes their lawns, and I response to 9:29, I'd rather he mow less frequently and allow some peace.

Oh for pete's sake, people, you live in a CITY. There are noises. Do you complain to the fire/ police departments about the sound of sirens?

If it bothers you this much, get yourself a patch of land in the country and go hiberate by yourself.

Some people live efficient lives, especially older folks who get up with the sun. They really don't sleep until 9am. I understand you consider it rude to mow the lawn at 9am, and I suppose that's an issue with the "me" generation that you're part of, but you're neighbor probably thinks you're rude and lazy. I don't know what to say. You're fighting a losing rant. Your vent is selfish.

You're right. It is completely useless to point out that other may be meditating, reading the paper, enjoying quiet time at 9 on Sunday. Because anyone who is loud and boorish enough to blast their gas powered lawnmower at that time, is never going to have the self awareness to see the boorishness of their behavior. And hell, if 4 or 5 boorish posters on DCUM think it's fine to do this, then that must be the status quo and thereby acceptable. I disagree, and I know you'll just carry on being boorish louts no matter what I write here.

Hopefully the lawn-cutting neighbor will see this and move up their cutting time. I'd suggest pre-dawn hours.
