That exact same logic was used when black people wanted to go to white schools or move into white neighborhoods.

Birth control frees women from male dominance. Female biology is no longer female destiny. Motherhood and dependence on males to provide for you while you care for your offspring are not longer a woman't only choices. Shaking the foundations of centuries-old, millenia-old social and economic rules and relationships.

In other words, women can compete with men. Look at how women are getting more degress. Look how men have suffered more in the recession. Men now have to increasingly share power with women in every sphere (except religion maybe). Of course that pisses off people who are used to privelege- gender-based privelege.

No surprise there. They should go back to doing what they are best equipped to do -- fetch live food without weapons and move heavy rocks.

The Pill resolved my endometriosis, thereby allowing me to avoid infertility and to become a mother. It was a medical decision I made in concert with my doctor. Is there an equivalent health advantage to condoms?

Insurance companies arent PROVIDING BIRTH CONTROL. They cover it, like any other pharmaceutical. The issue is whether institutions can selectively decide not to cover certain conditions and medications that happen to be exclusively used by women. That is not "special treatment"--it's biology.

How does Rush and the Catholic Church feel about Viagra?

Sadly my father listens to Rush as do MANY other conservatives I know/have to deal with who are from other areas of the US as well as the DC area. As much as I would love for him to be irrelevant, he is far from it and his corrosive filth seeps into his listeners brains.

My mother supports him. We never talk politics, because it never ends well. I did forward her a few links regarding this story, and she is standing behind Rush. I feel sick to my stomach, and almost feel as if it is sufficient reason to take a break from her for a bit.

Insurance doesn't pay for toothpaste either. While it certainly preferable for insurance to cover as much as possible, including contraception, I really don't see what the big deal is if she has to pay for her own contraception. If birth control pills are that important to her (versus buying a box of condoms) and she can't get insurance to cover it, then make do. It's probably cheaper than a daily Starbucks habit.

so do you think insc should cover...

cancer treatments for smokers?
diabetes treatments for the obese?
or, how about this, infertility treatments?

we are really walking down a dangerous, slippery slope when we talk about what insc does and does not cover.

She's not slut, but evidently no catch either. Hard to believe she needs contraception that much.

Does she really need to prove her attractiveness to you in order to deserve medicine? She has ovarian cysts and if she wants to have babies, she's going to need to treat them with hormones.

Are conservatives against preserving fertility now?
