Virginia can't outlaw abortions because of Roe v Wade. What is the point of this bill? Has the governor made any mention of signing it?
A state will eventually pass it, but one would think the Supreme Court would reject it because of the Roe v Wade and Griswold v Connecticut rulings. Am I missing something here? |
As someone who has been forcibly raped, I can say that you have a CHOICE not to undergo these procedures in VA. I didn't have a choice to do anything when a stranger raped me at 17. Please stop comparing the two. You have no idea what you are talking about, and it is denigrating to women who have been held down against their will and violated. |
Yes. It's unconstitutional. I don't know why people are wasting so much time discussing it and getting heated about it. |
republicans are screaming about the constitution and violation of rights because of the Obama rule that healthcare plans and healthcare institutions have to offer the OPTION of birth control.
But Republican government wants to pass a law that I must - MUST - undergo a vaginal probe before engaging in a legal procedure. I am having difficulty finding a single word that expresses the depth of my outrage and anger over these mostly male government bureaucrats interfering with my uterus. |
608 again, as long as this is the face of "experts" when it comes to vaginas, all women are in deep trouble.

Go ahead, open the bottle of wine. Cause you need to relax. |
If this is your argument, you need to reframe it. If abortion is to be treated as simply a GYN surgical procedure, and you do not see it as ending a life, you need to realize that GYN surguries almost always require an ultrasound of the very same nature. This is what helps a surgeon to plan incisions, etc. and helps reduce their liability. When you want to deviate from the norm, it would appear there is something about the visual of a "mass of cells" that you find troubling. |
How condescending. Are you a white republican male by any chance? Cuz that sounds like something you would say as you pat my on the ass and dismiss my opinion. You just wait and see how many women "relax" about this on election day. |
Bullshit. If a woman and/or her doctor need an ultrasound, that is their option. The government does not get to intervene in the process. And I DO see it as ending a life. I have had an unwanted pregnancy and did NOT opt for abortion. But that's MY choice. The VA state assembly has no right, no right, to legislate a wanding of anybody's vagina. |
Oh are you on the supreme court? One never knows how the supreme court will rule. |
Why is the main argument here centering around abortion? That's just one facet of it. Millions of women in VA get pregnant every year. What percentage of them will want to terminate? I don't know precisely but it's got to be a fraction. What percentage will be affected by these laws? 100%. Can anyone here besides me see the implications for this beyond abortion?
Even if you are 100% against any and all forms of abortion, by creating fetal personhood the state is, by default, pinning fetal rights against mother's rights. Ugh...I'm being very articulate here and I have to go to work, but my larger point is that fetal personhood is so much bigger than the abortion debate. It's Pandor's Box personified...pun intended. |
Mmmm, actually it isn't entirely impossible to predict. Do you know anything about the judicial branch darling? |
Not BS. In any other surgical procedure, there are standards that must be followed. Interesting that in this ONE circumstance, thorough care on a woman's health issue gets you so upset and you say the only standard that should exist is what the woman wants. Sounds like something other than standard medical care to any person who actually thinks it through. |
Please give an example of another surgical procedure where a state assembly has passed a law that a patient MUST undergo some process as a part of the procedure. I |
