FCPS AAP: in-pool letters going out on Monday 1/23/12

last year our committee was made up of the principal, asst principal, aart, counselor and second grade teachers. our principal and aart challenged everyone's scores and teachers had to show up with specific examples in order to justify them. the aart had the final say on the gbrs. i know this as per the second grade teacher last year. i was surprised by the low GBRS DC got last year so i had asked alot of questions. Nothing you can do about this. (BTW - DC got in 1st round and is doing amazing). Just an fyi about how some schools can do the GBRS.

I'm not sure that is the case in every school.

I asked at the fall meeting on AAP and the AART said that the second grade teachers fill out the GBRS forms for the second graders. (other teachers fill them out for other grades, but it's always the primary teacher who completes the form on each child).

Maybe there is some review by the AART to make sure that one teacher isn't inflating while others are more stringent -- I don't know. But, our AART didn't describe the committee process that you described.

23:15 here. I would agree with PP. I think each school can do this differently although every school is supposed to have a committee that reviews the GBRS, it just depends who they put on that committee and whether some are tough or others are a rubber stamp. Our ES sent more than 30 kids to center last year... so it's not like they were trying to keep the kids at the base school. But the principal had been on one of the aap county review committees before and so maybe that had an effect on how they did it. Teacher had told me that the committe actually gave some kids GBRS of 2 and 4 - these were kids in the pool. I was very surprised.

Hi,
We received In-pool letter yesterday(01/24) in mail but have not received scores yet. Anyone from Hunters Woods ES got scores? We have not received the "Parent Questionaire" with the in-pool letter. It says it is optional. Should we still go ahead and submit the questionaire?

Best response so far...LOL

We got an in-pool notification letter for our son but no CogAT scores yet. As I recall his NNAT was 146.
