"Got Cogat in Tuesday Folder. Cogat and nnat in 99th percentile. Does anyone know whether they look at all the scores or only one? The referral form that school completes (saw it in the parent packet) only asks to fill out the best of one score from all 4 areas (NNAT and one of the Cogat subcategories). I wish the AAP team could see all my child's scores, as they are consistent."
They will look at all the scores and the teacher's GBRS. Re child from NJ - don't know how Otis Lennon scores are rated, but looks like NNAT/COGAT are too low. There is life outside of FCPS AAP.....Many of our future "movers and shakers" will not be products of AAP programs! What is important is that your child is learning and you are supporting him/her - academically, socially and emotionally. |

Waples Mill here. We received the in-pool letter yesterday. It was sent, along with the CogAt scores, directly from the school. |
| So frustrating -- today's mail came and still no CogAT scores. Have in-pool letter already but really want to see scores to see if any additional materials would be a good idea. |

Hunt Valley Elementary
Composite Score - 147 Is there any thing else I have to do for my child to qualify? |
| no |
| Hunt Valley: Assuming your child's GBRS is decent, you should be find. if the 147 is from extensive coaching, and the performance is not realized in past classroom performance, then it is not guaranteed. The issue is when the test scores are out of whack with everything else, the committee assumes test prep. |
| You have no idea what the committee assumes. |
|
Hunt Valley - I understand you can get a max score of 16 for GBRS. Do they add the cogat composite to the GBRS score to identify the students that qualify?
Thanks |
No, they do not. |
How on earth can you assume that? I might assume that the teacher and student did not click. It happened to my kid in another school district. The kid was bored out of his mind, goofed off and did substandard work. I asked for testing, teacher was strongly against it due to what he showed in class. He tested off the charts, got identified as GT. The teacher was shocked. She completely changed her approach with him and he went from one of her worst students to one of the best in a matter of weeks. If she had been his teacher in this district I am sure she would have given him a very low gbrs. With scores that high I really don't think the assumption should be test prep, even if the teacher's assessment is low. There are other variables that can cause such a discrepancy. |
