FCPS AAP: in-pool letters going out on Monday 1/23/12

Anonymous
Bonnie Brae students received their pool letters on Wednesday of last week and scores on Friday.

141 composite

141 V
137 Q
125 N

Should we be worried since one of his scores is so much lower than the other?

I heard from his teacher and she is very encouraging. I have not kept any significant samples of our child's work and was concerned about submitting samples. His teacher wrote wrote "Don’t worry if you don’t have anything because I will gather some examples that I have saved to take to the committee and I have a lot of anecdotal records that show the kind of question he asks, connections he makes, etc."

Any thoughts of what type of samples would be best to submit to counter his low Nonverbal score? He may not be a natural "outside the box" thinker, but he is very creative - constantly drawing and writing short comic books and stories.

Thanks!

I was told the same thing by AART, "don't worry about submissions just fill out the parent questionaire." I'm not saying that's the way to go in your situation but it works for us. We used very specific examples in our answers and we're satisfied with that. Our child got 152 Cogat composite. V 148, Q 149, NV 134

We heard the same thing from our AART so we completed the optional parent questionnaire and provided a copy of the psychologist's report with the WISC-IV scores.

Our AART also said we didn't need to bother with samples or references. She said we should do the questionnaire if we wanted to. This was the same path we used with our older child who was admitted and was what I planned to do but all these people preparing fat files has me a tad nervous (though I'm trying to remind myself to stick with my instinct and plan). Both CogAT and NNAT were 99th percentile.

With scores that high, go with your gut and KISS.

Thanks everyone! Originally we had not planned on doing anything other than the questionnaire but then I overheard a group of local mom's talking at Starbucks about this (yes I eavesdropped) and OMG it made me nervous!!

I have no idea what his NNAT score was. I remember getting the information, seeing he was above average, but um I threw it out after a few days. I had no idea about GT centers and this process then so it didn't mean that much to me at the time. Bad parent award LOL

Funny part is, I am on the fence about sending him to a different school anyway and splitting him from his friends and sister! My husband, on the other hand, says that we WILL file an appeal if DS doesn't get in ...guess we have a lot to talk about!

GL to everyone and thanks again

anyone know when we may receive the appeals notification, it says we would get notified in "june", Appeal was due June 1, we submitted WISC IV and assume daughter should get in based out "very superior" scores. Anyone know when the appeal notification letters go out?
