Replace "black men" in your sentence with "the poorest of DC's poor" and you're actually saying something. Otherwise, you're just picking out some arbitrary characteristic of these people (i.e. that they're black). You might just as well leave out "black" and say "men in DC all have aids, children out of wedlock, and hang out on the corner."

The fact that you're so emotionally committed to making it an indictment of "black men" is what reveals you as a race-baiting piece of shit.

I would have to say that 1) it is racist, and 2) it gives a false sense of security.

How do you avoid HIV?
Do not have sex with someone with HIV.
Risk factors are IV drug use, anal sex, promiscuity.

Race is not a risk factor -- it may be more common in blacks from DC, but not because they are blacks, but because of other risk factors.

White men in San Fransisco are also a high risk group, but I suspect they are safe for your daughter to date (if the guy would want to).

OP if your daughter is prone to having sex with gay men and drug users in the 40-49 age group you have a bigger problem on your hands than what race she chooses to date. You need to have a serious talk with that girl.

No one is denying that black men have higher rates of HIV. No one is denying that this is a crisis and a tragedy. But it's not a tragedy because it has the potential to effect your white affluent daughter, it's a tragedy because it is effecting black men who are, despite what some people seem to believe, are just as valuable and worthy of our protection.

Let's assume you tell your daughter to avoid having sex with black men. There's an unspoken message in that that somehow having unprotected sex with white men is not so bad. Your daughter continues in that behavior, happens to have sex with a white man with HIV and contracts the virus.

Instead, let's say you tell your daughter that unprotected sex is risky. You give her tools to protect herself regardless of the race of her partner. You teach her to wait until she's a point in a relationship that she can have an honest conversation, and find out if her partner has tested/encourage him to test. You teach her to use a condom. You teach her to be strong and confident so that she can advocate for herself, and insist on her partner using that condom. Your daugther is dating a man, whatever race, who has HIV. Maybe what you taught her leads to him getting tested, which has benefits for both. Maybe he doesn't get tested but he uses a condom. Benefits for both. Either way your child is safe, and so is her partner. Plus she has the benefit of a relationship with the person she chose out of love, not out of fear.
