Am I racist if I tell my daughter Not to Date Black Guys from DC because of AIDS?

First of all, how old is your daughter and is she sleeping with so many men that you need to let her know to stay away from all black guys in DC??

This problem is in fact a socio-economic one, not color-based. Unfortunately there is a very large swath of poor, uneducated people in certain areas of DC. Many are on government-assistance. If you are talking to her about AIDS in DC, you need to at least be sure she understands it's not a "black thing" but a socio-economic thing.

With that said, I think you should teach your daughter about the perils of AIDS and STD's in general, to be discriminating, and if she feels she's met someone she likes enough to "go there" then she should insist on safe sex.

Doing some quick math is appears that 4% is a small number but compare that to whites its 3-400%, to latinos its 200% wow shocking

Black woman here who attended Howard U and dated plenty of black guys. I never got serious with any D.C. native. And yes, I would inform my daughters about the difference in infection rates if they planned to attend my alma mater. Unprotected sex with anyone is not safe and it is only by the grace of God that we have escaped.

The report touches on that but also touches on the fact that the aa communoty has the highest percentage of hetero cases that outpaces africa.

Yes you are racist. It should be situational. A black kid from a good family like mine, for instance, is no more likely to have AIDS than your son is. He will be every bit as careful and well-educated about the risks as your child.
