Agree. We don't know what she did. She's 16 years old. She's a 16-year old girl/young woman whose father forced her onto a bed, stomach down, so he could whip her. Not once or twice, but a number of times while he spewed inappropriate language at her. Isn't that what that whole sadomasochism thing is all about - whips and beds and force and submission? Oh, and sex, too. It seems to me the video has all of those elements. If this video is genuinely of a father whipping his daughter, it's sick and disturbing.

She used the internet w/o her parents permission to download songs. This was not the first incident and the teen said it was escalating. Must not take much for you lose it and smack your kid.

Some of the responses on this thread are a bit weird. It's a jump to turn this into something sexual, in my opinion.

My father beat me (yes I do call it "beating") similarly when I was 15 - for similar "crimes" (he found out I was using a computer at school during a parent-teacher conference and he didn't want me using it). It was with a belt and he hit me 75 times.

For those who don't think this type of thing is a beating, it most certainly is. Probably not the only thing that happened to that girl, either - but I would stay away from turning it into some weird sexual thing.

And yes, I would spank my teenager in this manner (minus the verbal abuse and for only a fraction of the time of this spanking) if a spanking was necessary. Of course, my children were spanked when they were younger, so now that they are older (2 in their teens), I don't have to spank them as a form of discipline.

A jury will conclude this was child abuse. Pure and simple. For one thing, it's odd that you draw any sort of distinction between spanking and beating -- spanking IS beating. There are no degrees. But more importantly, the entire context of this -- the rage, the viciousness, the repetitive nature of it. He was out of control. It was a beating. If a teacher did this to your child, you'd want him strung up.

I'm the poster who made the connection between sadomasochism and this film (assuming the film's genuine). I understand your pronouncements about weird jumps. I might be thinking the same thing if it weren't for what I know about a neighborhood family where the father regularly whipped his daughters after making them lie face down on his bed, and the son secretly molested his sisters for years. When the molestation was finally reported, the findings of therapists was that there appeared to be a sexual component to the father's whippings, and that the father and mother had created a sort of "molestation-friendly" environment in their home. From what I was told, this isn't an unusual thing to happen, and it isn't unusual to find sexual connections. Hope that clarifies things.
