| It'll be interesting to see the results of the police investigation that the Huffington Post article says is in progress. It seemed pretty authentic to me, although it's surprising how quickly calm the girl became at the end of the video. Maybe this is a case of everyone reacting in different ways to stress, but after my parents' beatings, which ranged from less to more violent than this beating, I was definitely not calm. I was quiet because I wasn't allowed to cry or scream, but my expression and movements and tone of voice definitely were stressed. So this girl's reaction is surprising, although from the sounds of the beating on the video, it had to be painful, and, for his part, the man didn't appear to be acting. |

He's viciously hitting her on the back, sides, legs and butt with a belt for several minutes. He also threatens to hit her in the face with the belt. He is most certainly beating her. It's disturbing that you would label that a simple spanking... |

| I am against hitting and spanking and only watched a minute or so of this before it made me sick and I stopped. The only potential justification I could see is if she purposely hurt another person...was a bully and beat up another girl and the parents were giving her a taste of her own medicine. All bullies should have that IMO. |

My beliefs about spankings are irrelevant here because he is clearly not spanking her. Are you saying that your definition of spanking is something that is "supposed to hurt"? Lots of things hurt, including being beaten (or whipped, if you prefer) with a belt. How can you seriously call what he is doing a spanking? Would you "spank" your own child in this manner. |

Labeling this a beating seriously insults that millions of children abused everyday. Nowhere do I see the teenager being punched, kicked, etc. Nowhere do I see her being burned, scarred, etc. Nowhere do I see her being hit with a board, cord, etc. Was the Dad verbally abusive? Absolutely and I think his cursing and hateful tone was abhorrent. But did he *beat* her? No. And yes, I would spank my teenager in this manner (minus the verbal abuse and for only a fraction of the time of this spanking) if a spanking was necessary. Of course, my children were spanked when they were younger, so now that they are older (2 in their teens), I don't have to spank them as a form of discipline. |

But, to be fair, from the same source: spank1? ?[spangk] verb (used with object) 1. to strike (a person, usually a child) with the open hand, a slipper, etc., especially on the buttocks, as in punishment. IMO, spanking is milder than beating, and only done with a hand. |

Absolutely. Are there worse beatings given out every day? Yes. But to not call this a beating is laughable. And 16:53-what you are describing sounds more like torture. Burning? Scarring? I believe that is several steps up even from beating. |

I'm the pp who said she was spanked. ITA that that was a beating and not a spanking. My parents never spewed that sort of vile language at me while I was being spanked. They told me what I had done to earn a spanking. They administered it calmly. They didn't go away and then come back for more, nor threaten to beat me in the face. And by the time I was 16 they wouldn't spank me because they were smart enough to realize that wouldn't work. Instead they'd hit me where I lived by taking away my things and suspending privileges I enjoyed. What that man did that girl was abuse. Her mother is just as guilty. It's sick. I'm glad there's an investigation. I hope they both go to jail. And to the pp who asked what she was being beaten for? Illegal music and video downloads. Yeah. |
