You can't share anything? I had both my kids with Karen at my home a while ago and had two wonderful experiences. I'm so sorry to hear this. |
I'd love to be able to supply this thread with the facts, but all the stuff I know is secondhand. There will be a website soon soliciting donations and support for her if/when she faces the trial process. |
That stinks. Is it just against Karen or is this just the start of going after any CPM attending births in in D.C.?
|
No, the problem is not related to her work as a midwife. |
How can you say that the problem is not related to her work as a midwife? I have heard what happened and without going into details it is definitely related. Karen is a wonderful midwife. I personally used her to deliver my first child and I know MANY women who have used her and love her, as I do too. I am not trying to slander this wonderful person, I just think that the story will become common knowledge and there is no reason to be misleading. |
You must be a wonderful, caring mom. Nothing like starting out life with a broken arm - not treated for 48 hours, just hanging together with gauze - while your moron parents ran from the police. Disgusting. Who knows what happened to this child, but I'm betting it was not good. |
Actually, after reading the article, I realized this is a family I have known off and on through the years. Their daughter is just fine. |
Any new details? Is the website up? |
I don't know the family at all, but I can definitely imagine being disturbed by a visit from social worker, police, etc. A lot of people value their privacy and are disgusted by the reach of the state. I might've done what they did, if I hadn't been feeling well (i.e. had just given birth, had a stressful situation with my newborn having a broken arm, etc.)
Anyway, that has absolutely nothing to do with Karen Carr. I do hope she comes out alright in this. I have heard nothing but good things about her. |
Unfortunately it is true about Karen Carr. She was attending a breach birth at home in Virginia (which she does often) and the baby died. She ended up getting arrested for child endangerment and manslaughter. She was in jail for a few days but is out on bail. I think he license was also expired, so she is being charged with practicing medicine without a license. |
This is very sad. Both for the family and for Karen. Karen caught my baby boy 1 year ago and I found her to be an amazing midwife. |
If this is the story - where in VA did this happen?
|
Ugh, I hate hearing about stories like this. So sad on so many levels. I fully support the right of women to birth at home with a midwife, but it is hard not to question the judgment of somebody who would choose this route for a breach baby. I get that it is still rare for a breach baby to die from a vaginal birth. But still - how horrible to be that rare instance? Especially when most of us realize that the death of the baby could likely have been avoided if the family had gone the typical route. A c-section at the hospital. |
She was practicing without a Virginia license period. Not smart. |
Speculation like this is tasteless. The baby could have died from something totally unrelated. Even if that's not the case, it is still really low class of you to speculate. I am sure the parents are in enough pain, they don't need know-it-all Nancy's like you to make it worse. They will be dealing with this for the rest of their lives while you will eventually move on and find something else to comment on. Have some compassion and learn to show restraint. |
