My unpopular opinion - pockets in dresses are dumb

Yes, I'll just put on my useful pinafore the next time I head out.

I love pockets on dresses for travelling and if there is a zipper or secret inside pocket, that's even better. It's for the transit card, a thin billfold, chapstick with sunscreen, your ticket to the museum/ballet/train etc so you don't always have to open your cross body bag.

Yeah, when it is a Real Feel 107 and I have to take the dog for a quick walk to take a dump I am very unconcerned about letting my linen schmatta "shine." Aprons and pinafores are not in the equation.

You don't carry a purse?

I hate them too. I have about 20 linen dresses I've ordered from a woman in Latvia who has an Etsy shop, and aside from the better linen quality, the thing that keeps me buying from her is that she will make them without pockets. I hate hate hate pockets on dresses: I'm not a kindergartner and don't want these.

They make the clothing item look unpolished. They gap, they bulge, they make clothing look frumpy.

When was the last time you went anywhere? Transit cards, money, and tickets are all kept on phones these days. Your post sounds like you time traveled from the 90s.

I thought you were going to say that at real feel 107 you just wear a pinafore without the dress.

DP. I don't carry a purse. It's just one more thing to weigh you down. I carry a small wallet, a lip gloss, a tissue and my car key in my pockets. In summer I have to carry my phone; in winter I put it in a jacket pocket.

I very occasionally buy a skirt or dress with no pockets but only if it is structured in a way that I can have the seamstress at the cleaners put in pockets.

Where do you put your phone if you don't have any pockets?

Ugh, so frumpy, carrying around a bag like a porter

It depends a lot on the material, doesn't it? A heavier, stiffer material supports the pocket better.
Keeping it light with chapstick and a credit card won't ruin the.

Yes, it is so much more graceful to have bulging pockets on each hip, like an old lady who gave up years ago.

Just cut them off if you don’t want them

Not IMO. I’m a teacher and our school has no a/c (long story) so we are dying on these hot days. I rarely wear dresses to school because they are impractical except for the ones with pockets. I put my phone in them, a pen, bandaids, etc. Best clothing invention in a long time.
