I have several summer dresses with pockets and I’ve decided not to buy any more of them. I never use the pockets for anything because they look bulky and make my hips look bigger and/or pull the dress into an odd shape. Plus, I’ve found that even in dresses that hang dry without needing ironing, the pockets hopelessly bunch up no matter how much I try to straighten them while still damp, resulting in me having to get the iron out. They also just add bulk in an area of my body where I don’t want it, even if they are ironed smooth and empty.
Farewell to dresses with pockets - I know this is a big selling point for some, but I am done! |
| I remember you posted the same screed last year. |

I *hate* dresses with pockets. I'm not the OP. There are others out there.
It's so dumb. Who needs them? Not big enough to hold anything, not that you'd want a bunch of crap right around your hips anyway. Frumpy. |
| Good for you. I rarely buy a dress without pockets. To each, her own. |
| I love them. Need a place for my glasses. My hips aren’t big enough for a pocket to make a difference. |
| Consider yourself lucky. I have to put my insulin pump in dress pockets if I want to wear a dress |
| They look frumpy. They remind me of an elderly woman’s housecoat. |
| Me and my chapstik disagree with you. |
| If they are tailored properly they are great. I wouldn't like them in dresses that can go in the washing machine. |
| I put my wallet, phone, and headphones in them. I will not buy a dress that doesn't have them. |

I have some very pretty, delicate dresses with invisible pockets stitched into A line skirts, where I can stash my car key, or a poo bag if I'm running out the door but first need to do a potty break for my dog. Or sometimes I put a tissue in there, or a little emergency pad. These are delicate pockets in the same lightweight cotton fabric as the dress lining, so they can't hold heavy things, like a phone, but they sure are lifesavers!
Most people don't know the full range of clothing that's out there. You would never guess that my oh-so-proper dresses have pockets. And then I have sturdy corduroy or denim skirts with visible utilitarian pockets, sometimes in contrasting fabrics, where the pockets are an integral part of the design. Those I can put a phone in, or even a small wallet, and the vibe is more daily chores than summer wedding. |

IF PEOPLE CAN SEE YOUR POCKETS, YOU'RE TOO FAT FOR THE DRESS, OP.
Maybe wear something your size instead of blaming the pockets. No one can see my pockets... I'm harsh because you started this thread. |

Nature’s pocket is always an option.
I prefer my dress pockets though. |
| I kind of agree. Most dresses with pockets just have a poorly done insert on the side seam. If you use it for anything other than a tissue or very small object it will hang oddly. This doesn't bother me when I'm walking the dog, but if I'm actually trying to look nice I need to carry a bag anyway. |
