My unpopular opinion - pockets in dresses are dumb

Burn the witch!

Okay, okay. It really depends on the dress style and fabric. I am generally pro-pocket, though.

Counterpoint, when you have small kids being able to shove something into a pocket is huge. Toddlers are always handing you things.

Pockets are worth it for the utility but in my fave sack dresses, they have to be ironed or easier, if you’re hanging dry just pull them tight kind of so they’re flat when they dry. It makes a big difference.

Onseam pockets are great! Patch pockets are decorative only.

I prefer my dress pockets though.

+1

I hate carrying a purse. I won't buy clothes without pockets, dresses included.

I dont like them but a small crossbody bag is not a burden to me.

Yes this. A formal dress, not really needed. But in my most worn styles, which tend to be casual and running around type things, I really like having pockets. Mainly to stash my phone or a hair tie. Yes I often have a bag that also carries these, but sometimes the bag gets put down and having somewhere to put the phone away is nice.

Nobody cares

OP the pockets aren't making your hips look big, your lunch is.

I mean they're fine for casual dresses, like what I'd wear to run errands and not caring about looking super fancy. Nice to have the convenience and I don't care if they make the dress hang weird, which they do.

For a nice dress, like something I'd wear to a work event or date night, no, I don't want pockets. I'm so sick of the "iT hAs PoCkEtS" trend where women act like a dress with pockets is the answer to the patriarchy. They hold like two things and make you look hippy.

Maybe wear something your size instead of blaming the pockets. No one can see my pockets...

I'm harsh because you started this thread.

Huh? I promise you, even on a trapeeze/sack style dress with pockets, you can see the pockets. They look like a blown out can of biscuits on the side.

I agree, OP! I'll sign your change.org petition! And can we please add to the list t-shirts that are see-through and/or too short? I'm talking ones that are sold in the fully grown adult women's section, not tween clothes from Aerie or Lululemon something. I guarantee no one wants to see my middle aged pooch when I'm just trying to get my steps in.

Same. Pockets rarely hit me in a flattering place

I have many summer sun dresses with pockets and they are my favorites. Womens clothing in general doesn't have enough pockets, and wish everything I wore had pockets. I especially ahte the pants with the fake pockets or the really super shallow pockets - we carry around cell phones too, and need a place to put them
