So your disabled sibling is now an adult on Medicaid and not their insurances or trusts, and doesn’t have 1 of those criteria to get care? And is completely unable to work in any of those handicapped programs? Yes it is a heavy lift to raise a handicapped or special needs child and adult- for parents or the government, or both. It’s beyond life altering for everyone who chooses to be involved. |
Clearly you have no one in your life that would be affected and an inability to care about those it will affect. |
Not any more. But because the person has been disabled from birth, they wanted school records. |
That force is NOT going to happen. DY reread that and understand how ridiculous it sounds? |
Seriously. I know MAGAs are dim but even most of them understand how Medicaid works. A lot of these comments seem to be from people who don’t even live in the US. Best not to engage. |
Different poster here, but why are you being so obtuse? Adult kids can't be on their parents health insurance past age 26. Hence the need for Medicaid, which is HEALTHCARE for the poor. Trusts require money, and many families with disability kids have only been able to have 1 working parent because the other had to get the disabled person to the zillions of appointments. They don't have money lying around. The people I know who have Special Needs trusts will only have money to put into them once they have died, from life insurance proceeds and the sale of a home. And handicapped programs? Are you kidding me? They are few and far between for adults. And they cost money to run. And Trump's Big Beautiful Bill slashes money for those as well. |

Does USA have more mentally handicapped or physically handicapped or genetically handicapped than other countries’ percentages?
What do other countries do, if anything, for the families or the handicapped individual? |
NP. I m facing a life debilitating disease in my late 50s. It would be selfish for me to take drugs to extend my life or anyone else’s. None of us are that special is that special nor should we submit to being human Guinea pigs. We live, we die. Give the money to the under 40s, grandpa. I’m sure either Trump or Dems will come to the same conclusion soon. |
Adding when MAGA does it, it will be cruel. When the Dems do it, it will be compassionate like in Belgium. |
No, those of us with disabled family members are not going to advocate for their death. Are you out of your mind? |
No, are you? Once I cannot bathe or go to the toilet on my own and require costly drugs to live, it is past time for me to go. Living like that is worse than if I had been an unwanted pregnancy. I am no longer viable outside the womb. MIf you are a liberal/progressive but do not support pinching off dead leaves, yet support a woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy up until birth, you are a hypocrite. We cannot pay for all the other social programs unless we are all in this together. |

Fact: There ae people who need Medicaid.
Fact: There is tons of fraud in Medicaid. I personally know two people who found fraud on their accounts. Both reported it and it appears action was taken. One was fraud on Medicare.. The other was fraud for a disabled sibling on Medicaid. Both people were legitimately covered and, in the Medicare case, it was fraud on fake prescriptions for medical equipment. Family member has prosecuted these kinds of cases--apparently medical equipment is one of the biggest sources of fraud. One of his cases was a small town where many people had those portable oxygen machines. The doctor prescribed them for many of his patients who--apparently--did not need them. Those machines are on a subscription basis so the fraud goes on forever. I am a senior citizen. It is amazing how many calls we get offering us "free stuff" that Medicare will pay for. Stuff we don't need or want. |
But why does anyone NEED this stuff at all? How much are we spending to combat fraud? How much is that increasing our bills. Why give the fraudsters anything to exploit? Why give it to the drug companies that give us a false premise of living longer? Unless they can stop the aging process, the problem is futile. |
Other countries have universal healthcare. Everyone in the society gets free healthcare. |
NP. Are you asking why people need durable medical equipment such as portable oxygen, cpap machines, or wheelchairs? Breathing and mobility can be impacted by a variety of illnesses for quite some time before people die from their conditions. People who honestly qualify for coverage and legitimately need the things that they are prescribed in order to maintain their health and quality of life would have few options without their medicare/medicaid coverage. What alternative do you propose for them? |
