New Medicaid rules will slash benefits to the cognitively impaired, seriously ill

Anonymous
The Dems should be trumpeting this more. There are a lot of swing and R voters that have cognitively impaired family members, in part because of the anti-abortion stance. They should be running ads with this along with the quote from Trump’s nephew.

I guess this doesn’t affect veterans with TBI because they get insurance through the VA?

If you can change your clothes and go the bathroom, then you can poop on a Congressman's desk and sue the government for weaponization. That's your healthcare funding.

Or join ICE. No qualifications required.

All the Trump apologists on this board can STUFF IT.

The just-released rules say that if you can get in and out of a chair, use the toilet and take a bath on your own, you need to work 80 hours a month or no health care for you.

This totally ignores that fact that that the cognitively impaired don't typically drive and there's few transportation options.

And that fact that cancer patients going through treatment are sick as dogs a lot of the time won't be able to work.

Oh, and the fact that NOBODY HIRES THE SICK AND COGNTIVELY IMPAIRED!

And don't tell me it's not happening. The links are below.

https://www.disabilityscoop.com/2026/06/03/medicaid-changes-will-push-people-with-disabilities-off-program-advocates-warn/32025/

"The 387-page rule published Wednesday indicates that individuals with physical, intellectual or developmental disabilities will be considered “medically frail” only if their condition “significantly impairs” their ability to perform at least one activity of daily living, or ADL, which includes bathing, dressing, walking, toileting, eating or getting in and out of bed or a chair.

“An individual with such a disability that does not significantly impair their ability to perform one or more ADLs would not qualify for this exclusion,” the rule states.

Other categories that can qualify as “medically frail” include people who are “blind or disabled,” individuals with substance use disorder, a “disabling mental disorder” or a serious or complex medical condition.

To be considered “disabled,” a person would have to be “unable to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than twelve months.”

So you Trumpers can STFU about it only being "fraud" they are trying to get rid of.

They are trying to kill the sick and disabled.

That sounds like an incredibly easy bar to pass if you are actually handicapped or impaired. Only 1 of those?

Wtf was it before that clause? Jsut find a nurse or doc to sign something and split the welfare proceeds?

Agree.

I shudder to think what it was before, just sign up and give them your direct deposit amount where to send the monthly cheque?

It reads just fine.

Clearly there’s a bunch of loonies on here who cannot read and are overly dramatic.

The point is, it is yet another obstacle put in place to limit the number of people who qualify. States will get fined if they accidentally offer Medicaid to someone who doesn’t fit the government’s definition, so they will err on the side of caution and end up denying people who probably really should qualify. They have already done that for SNAP applicants.

Biden expanded SNAP temporarily during COVID QE and now it’s been sunset back to the normal equations and HHI thresholds plus COLA.

NBD. But of course, entitlements breed more entitlement amongst the welfare crowd.

You know absolutely nothing, absolutely nothing on how this works because you live a life sheltered from any one who is developmentally disabled, medically fragile, etc. My parents would have been BEYOND thrilled if someone would have hired their DC with a developmental disability for 80 hours month - but that doesn't happen regardless of how many feel good reels run on social media.

And Medicaid doesn't pay a "proceed" - it helps the individual receive health care, often for what are very complex conditions. The fraud in Medicaid is perpetrated by insurers and providers.

Exactly. Everyone deserves 80 hr a week free taxpayer bodies caretaking. Like in all the other countries that do that!

Wish I set up one of those Medicaid autism clinics the last five years making $$$ millions with huge margins, unskilled labor friends and cockamamie egregious billing.

Trump has a grand nephew, the son of the son of his deceased (alcoholic) pilot brother Fred, who is cognitively impaired and fairly profoundly disabled physically as well.

At some point in the recent past, after hosting his nephew and other disability advocates in the White House, he remarked to his nephew that maybe it would just be better altogether to let such people die.

He also on another occasion suggested to his nephew that he should just let his disabled son die so the nephew could move to Florida and play a lot of golf.

Yep. It's astonishing to me this thread isn't longer. People should be outraged.

They will have ICE rounding up the sick and disabled next.

Sick and disabled illegals never should have been allowed to stay and leach into another countries medical and welfare systems, just for showing up illegally.

Way to miss the point.

There are no illegals getting these benefits.

The Trumpers will just use their ICE goons to slaughter disabled US citizens.

ICE, or immigration and customs enforcement is for illegals. And yes illegals during their phones refugee case wait, where they usually No Show, get a temp work ID and welfare like Medicaid. Good times.

Start your own thread about ice doing whatever you are making up.

For our family, it was 3 months waiting for an appointment to apply, an in person interview. about 100 pages of documents and medical testing from doctors, IEPs from the school district, more forms detailing how he functions day to day, and a full battery of IQ and psychological tests. Then another 5 months waiting for a decision.

So no, you don't just sign up and get monthly "cheques," you foreign bot.

There's no money. This is the ability to have a doctor and get treatments.

What other countries have what types of care for 100,000,000 poor people?

Do poor people do their annual preventative care appts? Those are covered.

Do poor people take their daily prescribed meds?

Do poor people get free cutting edge surgeries and clinical trials or meds when they don’t do any of the above?

Do poor drug addicts get daily therapies indefinitely?

What about poor illegal aliens who deliberately arrive sickly or when serious chronic illnesses?

What about the poor obese who never did wellness visits, exercise or eat healthy, what do other countries do for them? State funded dieticians, nutritionists, food delivery, meds, therapy? Or just treat the diabetes and knee pain?

What are other countries doing medically that is effective for poor people with either preventive, acute, or chronic conditions?
