Which cost $ to build, so why build it if it’s only going to be used for a limited amount of time? Seems wasteful! Permits don’t equal free construction. Everyone on here claims to be a financial watchdog but not sure they really are |
That does seem dumb and also irrelevant to the fact that the county owns the land, not MCPS, and has asked MCPS to leave after letting them use it for free for years. |
They asked them to leave 15 years ago. Then let MCPS build an entire EV charging station compound. |
This is crazy to expect them to move all that. |
Yeah that's really dumb. Still not MCPS's land. Taylor is not giving any money to developers. The county is allocating funding to move the bus depot. |
But the County can’t tell Taylor how to spend education funding. The decision to use $70M for bus depots instead of HVAC repair or replacement is entirely Taylor’s. |
The CIP is different from the operating budget. The council does make these decisions. That being said, certainly Taylor would have raised a stink about this tradeoff if he didn't agree with it. The reality is they need to put the buses somewhere though. |
Gross! Yet Taylor is targeting to cut social workers, english teaching assistants, special ed teachers and lots of other positions who help students. The more I hear about Taylor, the less I like. |
This has nothing to do with the bus depot. Taylor isn't involved in the deal with the developers. Developers don't give things for free. If they pay $70 million for the bus depot then they wouldn't be paying for something else. Land swaps only work if the developer has land suitable for a depot and that same developer wants to develop the shady grove site |
| The Wootton ES #7 site is a non-starter. The access in and out is all wrong. Plus the bus drivers who don't have a car can't get out there and even if they do have a car, not sure if the 12 acres will be big enough. Access in and out is bad. No logistical sense at all. |
Not true. Taylor snuck this in the Capital Budget and got the Board of Education to approve it. |
And it's smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood on environmentally protected land. |
Oh goody--i'm sure it will do MCPS a lot of good that it allocates its Capital Budget so that the developers can build a new condo complex, while declaring no school age children will live in it and schools can become more overcrowded with less funding allocated to them. |
