Let's be clear here. We can legitimately argue about the appropriate location of a bus depot. But this isn't Taylor choosing to spend money on developers. It is not, at all. This is MCPS having no choice to pay for a bus depot elsewhere because the county is no longer allowing it to remain at the current location.
Let's be clear here. Taylor chose to spend $70M in THIS budget. Taylor chose to hide the spending deep in the documents so that the Board of Education would vote on it without any public notice, opportunity to be heard or discussion of feasibility. The search for a new bus depot has been gong on for over 15 years. There is no emergency that forced poor Taylor to hide this $70M outlay in the MCPS Capital Budget. He did that all by himself. Taylor has also established a clear disdain for any public process, feasibility studies, transportation studies or data analysis in any of this plans.
DP I agree with you that Taylor often acts with disdain for the community and this is certainly an example of that. However, the need for a new bus depot is real. The fact that the search has been going on for so long underscores the fact that a publicly owned property located close to transit has been underutilized for a very long time. That's really wasteful. The issue is nobody wants a bus depot near them. It has nothing to do with Taylor spending money on developers, which is just false. The money is for space to park buses.
The money is ONLY being spent to appease developers. MCPS already has a bus depot for school buses.
No, the buses are essentially squatting on county-owned land that the county wants to use for another purpose.
LOL the county gave MCPS permits to build massive charging stations on the property.
Which cost $ to build, so why build it if it’s only going to be used for a limited amount of time? Seems wasteful! Permits don’t equal free construction. Everyone on here claims to be a financial watchdog but not sure they really are
That does seem dumb and also irrelevant to the fact that the county owns the land, not MCPS, and has asked MCPS to leave after letting them use it for free for years.
