Superintendent spending $70M for developers

In addition to the fact that they want to put it smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood, there are significant environmental issues specific to that site that they would have to be addressed first. It's also zoned R-200 which is residential.

Neither location is "densely populated." And residential areas are served by school buses. It makes sense to locate buses closer to where they're going to be used.

A smart person would play it so that developers moved it happily, and paid to do so!

This is what happened with the police station in Bethesda. It used to be on the corner of Wisconsin Ave and Montgomery Ave, a prime location a block from the Metro. They did a swap and there's a hotel there now, and the police station was moved to Rugby Ave and the county came out ahead on the deal.

Yeah, 4 am start times in those bus depots - but it makes sense, right?, if you are just an apartment dweller - not like this is in Potomac. Should be pleasant enough.

School buses run in Potomac. Why wouldn't there be bus depots in Potomac?

It's literally kitty-corner from an active quarry.

If you're worried about "environmental issues," you must be saying you want MCPS to lease more EV buses.

There is no proposal to put a bus depot in Potomac. Taylor's two locations are Germantown and Rockville.

Maybe we can put Wootton there and park the busses at old Wootton

Rockville residents call Rockville Potomac

Not in the city of Rockville.

Then let the developers pay to move the depot. Taylor has decided to use MCPS Capital Budget money.

The Shady Grove site isn't MCPS property. MCPS is basically being evicted by the county, which completely makes sense. It is a huge waste of land next to a metro station. The two new spots make much more sense.

Actually, for environmental reasons, this proposal to move the buses to residential neighborhoods is more appropriate for a lawsuit than the Wootton move.

How about moving the buses to the site of the empty Mens Homeless Shelter on East Gude...

There are more than 1300 residence in the immediate area. On top of that, the homes closest to the supposed bus depot are town homes which include HOC units. That means that those people will be most affected by a pollution spewing, loud bus depot. There are no bus depots in the county currently located within residential communities. If they have a spot on East Gude Drive that would make the most sense since that area is primarily industrial.
